Powell Max Crank Cast Rod 8' Hvy 806CB

Featured Replies

Anyone used this rod it's on sale at TW for $125.  I need a good deep cranking rod and was looking for some insight.  I'm also looking at the Dobyns champion 804 cranking rod, and the 7'11 MH cumara.  I'll probably match it up with curado E5 or Chronarch D5.

i got one in from TW yesterday and its a sweet rod i defiantly think it will be great for deep cranks. its really powerful and balances out well with most reels i have a revo s on it now but i think a curado e series would balance out just as well.

sweet thanks

I use a Powell cranking rod and I love it. I prefer a softer crank stik then most on this forum I think. I throw 20ft divers on a 3 power and maybe a 4 power. I like a softer rod, some like more. Its all personal preference. That said I know alot of folks in my area that love the Dobyns 805 and others the Powell 806. I also prefer glass.

I've never used either Dobyns or Powell but I saw that it was on sale and it looks like a good rod.

I have held the Powell 804CB and it feels like a very powerful rod, maybe even more powerful than my Dobyns 805CB. I imagine the 806CB is very stout. Another note about the 804CB is that the actually feels faster to me than any other crankbait rod I have ever held or fished. If it did not say moderate-fast on the blank, I would think it was a true fast action rod.
