G loomis Swimbait Rods?

Featured Replies

I have 6 loomis rods and love them. I have been looking for a swimbait rod for a while and I'm debating between the SWBR953 or 955. I was wondering if any of you guys have used either of these rods. I don't throw a lot of swimbaits over 2 oz's most of the time. I was leaning towards the 953 but was wondering how the 955 handles lighter swimbaits. I am more of a fan of a moderate-heavy rod than moderate-light. Any help would be appreciated.

I use an SWBR903C for the majority of my swimbaits and am extremely happy with it. I would absolutely go with the 3 power instead of the 5 power if you intend on throwing lots of baits under 3oz. I use mine primarily for Spro BBZ Jrs and 5"-6" soft shads. It isn't enough rod for regular sized BBZs or River 2 Sea Kong sized baits. It also makes a fantastic rod for general pike fishing and for large topwaters.

I just got the 955 for Christmas.  I was in your same situation debating on those two rods.  I'm pairing mine with a Curado 300e.  I haven't used it yet and honestly just started throwing swimbaits this fall.  I don't plan on having multiple swimbait combos at least not anytime soon so my thoughts were the 955 would be the most versatile rod for me.  I don't have any swimbaits over 3 oz right now but like to keep my options open.
