I just received the 805 Flip/Punch and am amazed at the quality and performance of this rod.

I was looking at the 795, and was wondering what you people use this rod for, because it is 7'9'' and only a medium heavy and a 5 power.

I have never fished or held the DX795, but I have read a lot about it. I know that many actually like to punch with the DX795, especially when using braid because the action is more moderate than the flipping/punching rods in the Champion series. They also enjoy the increased sensitivity of the DX over the Champion series. From what I gather, it has more power than the 765FLIP as well, although they are both rated as 5 power rods. Hope that helps a little.

I hope to get one for punching. I was hesitant at first because of the 5 power rating. I called Dobyns Rods and spoke to Richard and he told me that it ended up being more powerful than intended - closer to a 6 power than the listed 5. That's all I needed to hear.

One of my top 3 favorite rods for sure. I use it for heavy flipping and punching. It's definitely more powerful than originally intended, and is a 5.5 Power in my books. Definitely has more power than a 765, but it's got a little softer tip than the 805 PUNCH rod. They're both AWESOME rods.

   

David covered it for you, the only thing I would add is I use mine for some of my smaller swimbaits on lakes.  The rod has an interesting action and personally I LOVE it.
