Gary Loomis TFO Signature Series Rods

Featured Replies

I tried the search tool and only came up with two threads on this.  I hate to create another one but this is specifically for comparison to the original (and current) GLoomis rods.

So....

Has anyone had personal experience or heard any feedback on these new Gary Loomis "inspired" rods?  From what I read, he helped design it but doesn't make them.

Here they are at BPS.

I haven't fished with them, but from handling them in the store I can tell you that the only thing they have in common with GLoomis rods is the name.

They're much, much heavier than I expected and the level fit/finish definitely isn't very impressive at all. Based on what I've seen/felt, there are much better rods out there in the same price range.

Agreed.  There are far better rods out there in the same price point.

If Gary put his name on them, that has to be just about all he's done.  They just don't feel like anything he's ever had his hand in previously.  I mean, really, a GL2 is less than $100 more than the TFO.  If you just have to have the Loomis name, you might as well save your pennies.  Not to mention that the GL2 feels in every way superior to the TFO.

I figured they were not the same.  Quality materials cost more money and thus the price difference.  I was just wondering if they were a close comparison.  Sounds like they are not.
