LA CYGNE question

Featured Replies

I have a question about lakes with power plants, mainly La Cygne, because that is the closest to me, but where is the discharge area in relation to the power plant itself?

I keep seeing fishing reports that bass are biting on this and that near the discharge area.  I know it is because of the water temp being much warmer than the rest of the lake, and spring fever is killing me and if I can drive an 45 minutes and do some fishing, to me it would be well worth it.

The discharge is north of the towers.  You just have to look where the heaviest fog is ;D.  The great thing about La Cygne is that you can catch fish on topwater right now, you just have to dip your rod in the warm water to keep the eyelets from freezing up :(.  There are also plenty of whites and wipers on the flats near the discharge.  Fun lake to fish.  Good Luck!

Oh, buy the way huskertko, 43-9.  I know, this will come back to haunt me, but, WOW :exclamation

Yeah, that was an a$$ whoopin in every aspect. :-[

Ring Fry, is there any access to the warm water discharge area to fish from the bank.  I have a small personal pontoon boat, but with the air temps in the teens, I really don't want to have to get it out.

If you go across the dam, and past the power plant turn back north about 3/4 of a mile, then another left there is access.  It's been a long while since I have been over there, but I think it is about a 1/4 mile walk to the discharge.  There is a pool back there that I used to fish and put my boat in.  The temp right now probably would be in the mid 60's.  Super shallow, but used to be a lot of bass and crappie in it.

If the water has come up any, you can put in at the second (north) ramp which is directly across from the discharge.  Water should be fairly warm in that area and close to good fishing this time of year.

LOL .... Great minds think alike.  I was thinking about doing the very same thing.

If you look at the map and see the east side of the lake where there is a boat ramp, parking, etc, etc.  The boat ramp is for the small pools ring fry was talking about.  Keep going down that road until you see a parking area.  On the south side of that parking area will be another pool and on the north side a path.  That path leads to where the warm water reaches the main lake.

I haven't been out there in a few years, but I think this is correct.

Thanks guys, I can't go this weekend but I may make the trip down there next weekend, either that or I am going to get kicked out of Cabelas for fishing their fish tanks. :(

This is perfect. I was just looking for info on this warm-water info. Bassresource is awesome.

Thanks for the info.

It looks like tko needed some husker support and I have a question.  Is there open water at Coffey County at present? Go Big Red

Basscatcher5, I believe it would be 2350th rd.

Timmyswetarded, Wolf Creek is at Burlington.

Huskertko, I would recomend NOT getting on that lake in a personel pontoon.  A friend of mine has a 17ft boat and the few times we've been there the waves have run us off.  Just seems to be a lot of open water for the wind to go across and build up some good white caps.  We really need to find a friend with a large deep V so we can stick it out.

I have decided not to put that boat on that lake, but i am looking at some john boats or pond hopper type boats, tha i can use in the coves and such.
