Shad_Master
I was there about 40 years ago (wow?) and caught one of the largest small mouth of my life. Nothing to report since then.
spl156
yes I was refering to Lake Conway Arkansas, sorry about that
hawgchaser
Lake Conway is one of the best crappie lakes around. It also has monster red ear bream. Therefore much of the fishing pressure is not on the bass. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bass fisherman out there but 90% of the boats will be panfishing. I haven't fished Lake Conway in several years. There is a motor restriction and it is VERY tough to navigate. It is covered in stumps and you will need to get a map showing the boat trails. There is a gas station/bait store called Bates(I believe) that will have them. These folks know what the fish are biting so make sure to stop in and ask questions. They have been there for over 30 years. I can't point you in any specific location but I can tell you that I would either pound the bank with a spinnerbait or try to find tree lines on dropoffs and throw a texas rigged brush hog, lizard, or maybe even a senko depending on the color of the water. There are some nice bass in the lake. The dropoffs will not be drastic but more like 4 feet going to 8-10 ft. The bass will hold in these areas. Thats about all I can tell you! Where are you coming from?
chasescott
By next month the top water bite should be on. I would throw buzzbaits and frogs early and late. I would switch to a senko or black or purple t-rigged worm mid morning. Once the sun is up go find some cypress trees (not hard to do) and flip a jig on the shady side. You will not catch big numbers flipping the trees, but you can catch some hog legs. P.S. Drive slow and watch out for stumps. good luck
Shad_Master
Yeah, Bates, you guys are bringing back some memories for me.
hawgchaser
Bates has grown to a rather large gas station and tackle shop. BTW... I think I am wrong about the motor restrictions. I can't remember and I live only 20 minutes from there. Now I am thinking about going.
L-Train
Lake Conway... the lake that hooked me on bass fishing. I fished that lake pretty hard for about 4 years. Haven't been there in the last two (I moved). The major boat lanes are marked pretty good, but still be extra careful. Once you get off the trail to fish... YOU WILL HIT A STUMP. Be careful. Best areas, and I am not sure what the map will show or if it will have names of areas., But Palarm creek and Dix Creek were two of my best places. Big cove is going to be covered in lilly pads. you'll have a good chance to catch some good fish in there early on a frog. the pads will probably be too thick to throw a buzzbait, you might be able to get an inline buzzbait through there. Arts pond is another good area (it's close to palarm) Fish the bank just south of arts pond back towards big cove. Canteberry cove is another good one. The big fish are going to be out in the trees. But there are so many trees it is a little overwhelming. Fish the trees that have a creek close by or some other kind of cover or structure. You can waist a lot of time flipping unproductive trees. You would think a jig would be a good bait there. and it is if you can get away from the trot lines that have been set and left. There are a million out there. Texas rigs seem to not get caught on them as much. Green pumpkin baby brush hogs and lizards worked best for me. I prefer texas rigs over jigs there. A jig and a tied of trot line feels just like that typical "mush" feeling that a big bass feels like. White double willow spinnerbaits work very good as well. Just to reiterate... You will hit a stump. My buddy and I used to place bets on how many we were going to hit idleing across an area. And the numbers were usually double digits. May was my favorite time. Cover water. You will fall in love with a frog on that lake

L-Train
There are not a whole lot of tournaments out there. There is a small bass club that fishes out there once a month. From about March through June... you better bring minimum 25 lbs if you want first. The guys that win do nothing but flip trees. They may only get 6- 8 bites a day, but they are the rights ones.
