heading to lake of the ozarks for the 1st time

Featured Replies

Any advise? Staying near the grand glaize arm (lands end). Will be bass and crappie fishing. Anybody have any recent reports or suggestions for a couple of 1st timers?

I would think the jerkbait bite is going full swing.  I start to hit the secondary points about halfway back in the larger coves.  As the water bumps over the 50-53 mark, get your wiggle warts tied on and hang on.  Chunk rock secondary points in general relation to housekeeping pockets can be absolutely killer.  Jigs pitched into brushpiles along those same kinds of banks will also be productive.

As for the crappie.  They're starting their movement into the creeks to spawn.  I'd be looking for brush piles around boat docks along creek channel swings in the coves in 8 - 15ft.  The fish aren't always there,  a group will tend to migrate in and the action will be hot for awhile then cool off.  Either wait around for the next group to come in or move along.  I use little tube jigs or the old reliable minnow.

I will be down there this weekend. And like cart suggested...if the wiggle wart bite is on, there is nothing like it. Last year I was down there when it was in full swing, and I caught almost 30 keepers in about 3 hours. There is no other lake I'd rather be on with that kind of bite.

Rogue stickbaits seem to be working alright. Weather blows, 45 and occasional showers. Nothin over 3 pounds in the last 2 days between 6 of us. Water temps between 46 and 53. Still a little early I guess.
