Lake Ray Hubbard

Featured Replies

I am visiting the area and will be staying right up the street from the Lake. I know nothing about the area/water. My uncle has a boat and I am not necessarily tied to that particular body of water but any advice that might help me land a hawg would be greatly appreciated

My wife's sister and her husband live on the lake. I fish it about a dozen times a year including a few tournaments.

Get you a map and contact me and I will point out the areas the you will get bit on. We stay above the I30 bridge when we fish and all you need to know is docks and rock. The highways that cross the lake(IH30 & State 66) all are lined with rock. If you go under 30 at Bass Pro Shop start fishing down the north side of the interstate moving east. It is easier if you launch at Dalrock Rd. ramp on the north side. There is a large oak tree 47 yards east of where you come under the interstate growing up in the rock and it hangs out over the water. The water falls off quickly all along the rock. I have a large brushtop planted out in 22' straight out from that tree that you can catch a lot of fish from with a worm and jig. Fish crankbaits in shad and Chartruse/blue, plastics in watermewllon/red off the edges of the rock banks and you will get bit.

Do not try to run up the river toward the Lake Lavon dam unless your buddy knows it well. Just past the powerlines there is a shallow flat in the boat run that has a huge stump (It has destroyed many boats). Be very careful if you try this.

What he said, except its highway 30, not 35

I must have that disease. I told someone the other day it was 35 instead of 30. You would think I'd know better by now..

Thanks for correcting me. Would have hated for him to spend the day looking for the highway that was not there. LOL.

Eastexasbassin, check out that brushtop. My borther-in-law and I put it out on New Years day 2007. It has six christmas trees and an old top out of a Bradford Pear tree that he had to remove due to some storm damage. I have caught a lot of nice bass out of it, but nothing larger than six pounds for some reason, and only one anywhere near that size. Maybe you can do better.

There, I fixed it.

Thnx fishfordollars, I'll have to check out that brushtop.  I live within a stone's throw of Hubbard but I rarely fish it.  I don't own my own bass boat yet, so I do most of my fishing on a private lake out east where my buddies and I have several 10 foot pontoon type boats w/ trolling motors.  I'm hoping to get a bass boat this year or next, and when I do I'll be on Ray Hubbard several times a week.

I will be down there on business from June 29th-July 2nd.  I also write tournament reviews for FutureBass.com and am wondering about any evening tournaments that might be going on.  I will be staying at the comfort suites hotel on the lake.  Any info is appreciated.  You can email me at bjones@nightowl.net

There was a 10.01 caught yesterday afternoon on a topwater lure off a small grass bed. At least that is where he said he caught it. I know it came out of the lake, saw the vedio weighing it this morning on another site.

Wow, thats pretty cool.

Though I'm surprised more 10lbers aren't caught in Lake Ray Hubbard.  I drive over it every day and I don't see that many bass fisherman.  I can't wait till I have a real boat and can get out there and fish it.
