LOZ in March

Featured Replies

We're fishing LOZ the 3rd weekend in March and I was hoping for some input on the best baits & colors to throw then.

Is the primary forage shad?  I know wiggle warts do well but what colors are hot that time of year?

I would pretty much plan on throwing a jerkbait most of the time.  Little too early for the crankbait bite to start unless we get some freakishly warm weather between now and then and this winter has been freakishly cold so far.

Thanks, Cart.  That was actually my thinking.  I figure jerkbaits and jigs.

Have you been down to Coffee County Lake at all?  Supposed to be nice on Sunday so we're going to take a crack at it.  Pretty much looking for smallies but we'll take some bucketmouths if they're inclined to bite.

Don't know where coffee county lake is.  I'm on the other side of the state from you.

Since you're over there, it doesn't matter but just FYI its down in Coffeyville(sp?), Kansas.  Power plant lake.

In any event, thanks for the advice and here's to an early Spring.

I was at CC yesterday, sorry I didn't check this thread earlier. We didn't get on the lake til around noon because of the fog, they wouldn't let us on. Caught a few whites/hybrids on red eye shad and one LMB on a jig. Some guys were gettin smallies on shaky heads. Hope you're having more luck than us!

For LOZ, I agree. I'd throw alot of pointers/rogues. Alot of guys seem to target bluffs that time of year.

At Coffey County yesterday, they wouldn't let us on till almost 1pm because of the fog.  With that, my partner caught 3 decent largemouths and I managed to lose some lures.

No one was killing them out there yesterday, though.

So fish the points in March, eh?  I like the plan now I need some more jerkbaits.

I have a tournament down there on that weekend. Which area of the lake will you be on?

We launch out of Shawnee Bend on March 21st.  How 'bout you?

Mile marker 8. What tourney are you fishing? I'm going to be with the St Charles Hawg Hunters.

Its my club tourney--Raytown Bass Club.  I'll have a much better idea how many boats we'll have in a couple of weeks when our meetings start up again.

I'm hoping for 10-12 boats, we're in a growing stage!

If you're going out of Shawnee Bend you really don't need to drive far to catch a limit that time of year.

That's the best news I've heard all doggone day!

No problem, Valkyrie.  Just send me a marked up map or GPS coordinates and I'll be sure to stay off of those spots!!   ;)   LOL!
