Lake Conroe Vegatation

Featured Replies

Especially fishfordollars - Jack:  When the hydrilla came back into Conroe, fishing improved greatly and made it one of the best big bass lakes in the area.  Now that they have again almost completely eradicated the weed, what do you think it will do to the bass fishing????

Lots of large fish will be caught for a couple of years. The spawns will suffer due to predation of the eggs and fry causing a drop in survival. Catch ratios will fall off as well as average size.

Fishing is still great, but watch it suffer over the next few years. Weights that were in the high 20-30 lb. areas will drop off to the mid to lower teens for winning tournament weights. The fish will have to relocate and one of the main spots will be the docks. They will get hammered there further reducing the numbers and size.

It will return to the dead sea status it had 20 years ago, but eventually, the grass will return. Then we can fight the lake owners association all over again.

It took a 12+ to win the big bass tournament last weekend with at least another five that weighed 10-11+ pounds. It won't last though. Going to suffer for years until the grass carp are gone and the grass starts it's return. Ever seen a grass carp swim up to a yard and stick it's head out of the water to try to eat some one's yard grass that is on the water's edge? It's happening now.

FYI, the grass carp are protected. Don't get caught killing one. Key word there is "Caught".
