Oklahoma or Lake Fork

Featured Replies

Hi All its been a year and 4 months since I pulled my boat out of storage. I know shame on me but it was a miserable year. So here's the dilemma. I have limited time to make a business trip/fishing trip. Clients in Oklahoma and want to fish for a minimum of 3 days. I'm going to do my best to get to Fork as I've have had experience there and have spent about 8 days fishing it. If I cant make the extra day of travel work, what lake/lakes would you recommend in Oklahoma.

Thanks in advance.

ps. I hope you Sooners' don't hold that ugly 10-3 win against me. ;)

RW, Pat Mayes (across the road from Brannans) is a good lake.  Buddy caught a 10# out of there a few years ago and I usually catch quite a few 3 - 6 pounders.  Grand Lake of the Charokees is pretty tough to beat in NE Oklahoma.  There are some smaller lakes on that chain that are good, too.

Jon if I got that close I would probably have to go onto Fork.  Grand Lake is probably getting most of my interest but there seems to be limited internet info on it.  The only time I've fished it was the running the rivers for white bass.

Husker, when are you planning to make the trip?

Don't fish Grand much and haven't been there this year but the local reports are that the whites are really starting to move right now.  The largemouth on that lake always seem to love spinner baits on windy points close to deep water.  1- seem to work well in the spring on spawning flats.  I'll pay more attention to the radio fishing report that they do every morning and let you know if I hear anything exciting.

Husker,

I live in Tulsa.  We have had very few days with temperatures above fifty and even fewer above sixty.  I haven't been out yet, but I would venture to say that the water temps are still in the low forties.  The LMB bite will be slow and deep.

The same week-end that you are making your trip I am making a trip of my own - to Louisiana.  The lake I will be fishing is about the same latitude as Fork.  If I were you I would go to Lake Fork.

Rod, I took the boat out today to a lake just Northwest of Tulsa (Skiatook.)  The water temp was 46.  We have a front coming through this week-end that will knock the low down to 32 with an 80% rain/snow mix.  Go South young man, Go South!  I know I am.

Thanks Mike, any recommendations on Motels at this late notice?

If LFM is full, try Rainswood.  Clean rooms, boat ramp, excellent food and close to Birch.  Good chance he's not full as he can be a little grumpy.  Have stayed there many times.  If worse comes to worse you can always stay up in Sulphur Springs.  It's less than a half hour to the lake.
