Austin, TX trip

Featured Replies

It looks like I am going to be in the Austin, TX area for work 3/18-21. I'm not sure how much time I will have, but I thought I might try to get some fishing in (lakes are all still froze here). Any suggestions? I know Lake Travis is close. I am flying down, so no boat. I would not be above renting a boat, but if a person doesn't know a body of water, not sure how worthwhile that would be. Hiring a guide is an option, but also not sure I want to spend the money, unless there is an outstanding fishery nearby. I guess I just need suggestions. Thanks.

lake buchannan and lake lyndon b. johnson are pretty close to austin, and a decent fisheries at that.  there is town lake that runs through downtown.  not sure if it would be worthwhile, but they to rent kayaks on it.  there's also lake georgetown.  Best bet on a guided trip would be travis though.

Thanks for the reply.  I may try the lake in downtown, I still don't know how much spare time I will have.  I do appreciate the info.

Whites should be running in alot of areas around Austin.

There have been alot of 13+ fish come from Lake Austin.

Lake Travis is a great little lake, should be some beds down lake up the creeks.

Four great baits for Travis, chrome rattle trap, bomber Tenn shad, blu back, culprit 7.5 punkinseed, dip the tail in chart sometimes, and a Nichols smoked tube with red flake,

Travis can be very clear at times, thus lighter lines are the norm.

Boy, I would love to get into some white bass, not much more fun than that.

Thanks again.

Whites should be running in numerous Lake Travis creeks, up in the Perdnales river that runs into Travis or behind Max Starke Dam up river on the Colorado river arm on Travis.

lake Granger would be about 45 miles NE and the whites should be running the San Gabriel rivers 25 miles north of ya, not too mention if ya could get about 100 miles NE on the Colorado Bend State Park for great bank fishing and running whites.

Lots of water in short distance of Austin.

How'd the trip turn out?  I am hoping to be put there in a week or two

I didn't get much fishing in.  It poured the entire time I was there, and I didn't end up with much free time either.
