Presque Isle Bay in Erie

Featured Replies

When do you guys start fishing Lake Erie.  Ive heard late April can be good all the way through the year.  Just want to see when you guys start.  Thanks

Soon as the ice is gone!

To date, my best day really early there was March 27, the ice had been totally gone for less than 1 week. That day me and a friend caught over 30 and water temps ranged from 44-48 degrees. May I add that they were all largemouth. Smallmouth can also be caught just after ice out. I'm speaking of the bay of course.......As far as the main lake goes, it usually takes a little longer for the ice to melt but once it does the smallmouth fishing can be great.

It's kind of fun fishing the bay just after ice out. It's common to have to dodge ice bergs that blow in the channel from the main lake.  8-)

PM me if you would like more info.

Here's a pic from the March day I mentioned.

I plan on having my boat in the lagoons this upcoming Saturday!  Last year March 25 was the first day i got out and i caught 9 in 2 hours then i had to go to work at 1 o'clock.  The next day we came out and caught about 25 fish in misery bay.  The following friday we whacked 'em in the lagoons and horshoe pond.  Between the 2 of us, we boated well over 75 bass and had several slappers.  all between 1 and 4 1/2 lbs.  just bring pointers and rat-l-traps.  leave the jigs and spinnerbaits at  home til the waters almost 50.

hope this helps,

Ben

There's your answer! I tried to also post you the link to check the water/weather conditions there as well, but it won't let me post any active link until I've made at least 10 "normal" posts on this website. :-X

Ben, tell me the ice is off the lagoons!

My wife will be away w/ our little one for Easter. I have to work Saturday but if the ice is off I'll be there Sunday! Probably will bring my little boat, it's more ready than my big boat and little easier to manuver the shallows of the lagoons.

Yeah Eric, from what i can see the lagoons are totally open.  a good part of misery is also open, and the east end of the bay is mostly open! im hoping i can get the boat out saturday!
