April LM Bass on Lake Champlain

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to this so please be patient with me. My cousin and I are planning to go LM Bass fishing on the 18th or 19th of April on Lake Champlain.

We're coming from Montreal and have never been there so any tips and locations would be greatly appreciated. We have a 17ft Princecraft so sould be good to go anywhere.

Someone told us we had to go to the southern end since it's so early, is this true.

Thanks in advance.

I only really no the southern part of the lake.  There are several good spots if you launch out of Ticonderoga, NY or Larabee's point in Shoreham, VT.  The ice is just about gone, so you should not have any problems as far as that is concerned.  In fact the warm weather this weekend probably got rid of the rest of the ice.  I am sure someone on here could tell you about the northern part of the lake.

Thanks UPS VT. Any spots around there you might recommend and do you know if we need both the Vermont and N.Y. permits?

The only time you would need a license from both states is if you wanted to fish in the tributaries of the other state.  If you went to the extreme southern part of the lake (South Bay) you would need a NY license.  If you were on the Northern part of the lake on the VT side called the inland sea, you must have a VT license.  Otherwise you can have a license from either state.  As far as spots, I have to admit, I have not done a lot of early spring fishing.  So I don't know as though I could be much help there.

Wait and go 2 weeks later. You won't regret it.
