fishing in community ponds

Featured Replies

hey. i'm pretty new to fishing and have recently started to really get into it. the only problem is the only ponds i have around are small community ponds and state parks(which are usually packed). so i was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on fishing small ponds. they have basically no cover for the fish and are pretty much and oval. thanks

Well, it sounds like you have no visible cover to target, so I'd start by moving around and covering as much water as you can to determine if there are spots that produce better than others, even if the reason why is not apparent.

You can use horizontal search baits, like crankbaits, spinnerbaits and topwaters. If you find some fish you can slow down and fish the area more thoroughly with soft plastics. You might also try to fish at the higher percentage times, such as low light period. I've seen a lot of big bass taken from small ponds.

Good luck.
