Dominion Dan,I own a Grandt rod. It's a 7'6 flippin stick, it's got a soft tip. But man does it have a back bone. I c-rig, pitch and fish Horny Toads with it. Love them, if you buy a rod from them all your future rods come at a discounted rate too.

That's what the guy was telling me. I was looking at 7'6" flippin stick at the show for a new jig/swimbait/toad rod but it's going to have to wait a little while.

Which rod do you have? I really liked the ones with the feathers in them, but I also liked the black and silver ones with the carbon coatings and titanium guides. I think I'll probably end up getting one of their lower end rods though, because I will probably be buying a casting reel at the same time and I don't want to spend a semester's book money on a new setup.

Dominion Dan,

You can always buy used books at a discount!

I buy them used and I still average between $300 and $400 per semester in books alone!

Dominion Dan,

Do you go to ODU?  I dodged bullets around ODU for a few years before I graduated in 1994

Dan, I have the All American Pro Series C76. It's listed as a med/hvy, but it has some serious hook setting power. If we ever can hook up and fish together, you can try it out.

No, I go to JMU, I think SimonSays goes to ODU though, if I am not mistaken.

Flippin, I would like to try it out, I just need to learn how to use a baitcaster first! I still haven't given them any time to learn.

Dominion Dan,

You go to the top rated party school in Virginia.

What do you mean you don't have time to learn how to use a baitcaster?

Time management...

Wake up.

Get cleaned up.

Eat Breakfast.

Throw away all beer cans and bottles from last night's party.

Get lawn chair and watch traffic fly by on I-81.

Eat lunch.

Take a nap after lunch.

Go to your class at 2 PM.

Back to dorm room.

Change into gym clothes to go play some touch football or basketball.

Go to dorm and clean up.

Go to dinner.

Go to local beer store and stock up for party tonight.

Get ice and snacks.

Make sure TV works OK and set it to ESPN.

Friends arrive around 7:30 PM.

Party until midnight.

Go to sleep.

Same thing next day.

Oh, the life of a JMU student.

You can skip your class and learn how to use the baitcaster.

Really?  For years and years, that was Radford's claim to fame.  When did JMU edge out RU?

(I also went to JMU - graduated in '96.  I loved that place!)

LOL Sam! Party till 12? what kind of lame party is that? I'm just kidding. Anyways, what I meant was that it's not that I don't have time to learn the baitcaster, I just haven't put the time and effort into practicing it. I also normally wade fish so I can only take one setup, and since I am fishing smallie rivers, naturally my go to rig is a spinning one because I can do the finesse plastics that I use the most for smallies.

drums, apparently Radford got sick of their reputation and the administration has started to crack down on partying in recent years. JMU has prettier girls as well. Although we also took another top rating from them recently, highest frequency of STDs...

Have you been to Harrisonburg recently, drums? They're changing a lot of stuff. They are building a new library up by ISAT, they are digging a tunnel under Main street to connect the quad to a parking garage on the other side of the street, and also they are building a new arts center on Main street near Anthony-Seeger hall. They also recently bought the old Harrisonburg High School building and turned it into classrooms.

BTW, Drums, do you have any good fishing spots down here in or near Harrisonburg?

Lol, sorry not ODU, but I have the pleasure of dodging bullets in the heart of Richmond at VCU!

I guess we've taken this thread way off topic, huh?  :-)

JMU has prettier girls as well.

True dat.  Glad to see some things haven't changed...  ;D

Oh man, that was the other statistic I was thinking of for Radford.  Ouch!

Wow, crazy. It's been a good 9 years since I've been on campus.  When I was there, the whole ISAT complex was pretty much brand new, along with the major.  I started as a music major, then changed to psych, which itself is pretty much a useless degree unless you go the whole nine and get the PhD or PsyD.  I remember thinking shortly after I graduated that maybe I should have gone the ISAT route.  Now I build web pages at AOL (and have for 8 1/2 years).  Go figure, huh?

Oh man, it's been such a long time..but I remember there being a lake really close by that you could easily walk around, as well as rent john boats (and trolling motors too, I think).  We fished there a couple times and caught some pretty nice bass.  I couldn't begin to tell you where it was or what it was called.  But I'm pretty sure it was in Harrisonburg.

My wife dodges the bullets at VCU every day as well.  She watched too much CSI and is now working on her Forensic Science Degree!  I can't wait to see her put on her makeup a sexy outfit and 3 inch heels to got to work like all the women on CSI!

Radford had the advantage of a high girl to guy ratio which made it a great place to go.  Of course you know what ODU stands for.....OverDose University!  Have fun in college guys because it beats going to work everyday!

that's right, sorry simonsays, I knew it was one or the other.

tpayneful, JMU also has a high girl:guy ratio, I believe it's 60%-40%

drums, was it maybe Lake Shenandoah? It's the only lake near campus I can think of, and you can rent boats.

Yeah, looking at it on Google maps, I think you're right.  Not a very big lake, but we caught a lot of bass.  I even caught a pretty nice one (just under 5 lb'er).  Pumpkin firetail Zoom 7" worm if I remember it right.  They loved that color for some reason.  :-)
