what is it?  a crankbait or what    do u have a link or pic of it   i never heard of a hard plastic crawdad

You must be talking crankbait. Number of companies are putting out realistic craw looking cranks. Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not really into deep diving cranks (this is what I've heard and read). Get cranks that will dive (barely) to whatever depths the bottoms are and then retrieve so it just barely bounces off the bottom. I think you need a lighter touch than trying to DIG up the whole lake. Hope I haven't misspoken and this helps ;)...

I like digging those rebel craws right into the bottom and making a trail in the mud and bouncing them off every bit of rock and wood that I can.  You will lose a few, but they're relatively cheap.  That crank has been around for years, and it almost always produces when nothing else will.

Blake, cast that lure out and reel it in. The lip on the front makes it "dig" into the water and will cause it to dive. This is a pretty easy lure to fish. Experiment on how fast you reel it in and let the fish tell you how they want it retrieved.  As far as rigging it, just tie straight to the split ring on the lip.
