Question For the swim bait guys?

Featured Replies

Ok. I am not new to bass fishing at all, but new to swimbaits, that is for bass. I have been using them  ( I guess you can call them swim baits) for Muskie for years and have caught some really nice bass  when Muskie fishing. Lures like the Swim Wiz, Beleiver, and Creek Cub Pikie. they all have a side to side swimming action. Ok I started to get some newer swim baits for bass. One is call a charlie and it has that side to side action, the other are the Basstrix which have a paddle tail. which style is better for bass, side to side, or the paddle tail? what style do you guys like?

try them both and let the fish tell you what they want.but personaly i don't think that one is better then the other but i don't u use swim baits all that ofter

the charlie has a nice action that looks like an actual fish, the basstrix cause vibrations with the paddle tail.

i would say...if you want a little more attention for your bait, use the bastrix and use the charlie for clear calm conditions

throw the charlie away. As far as action goes, it depends on the bait. there are good baits that have paddletails and there are bad ones. Same with billed baits or jionted ones. The Basstrix are great little baits and should get you some fish. Its not a big fish bait but it gets bit well. The Charlie has several issues. the first being how unrealistic it looks. You find any fish that looks like one of those and post a pic!. I would only use it in muddy water or at night. (actualy I wouldnt use it at all)The biggest issue with them is the hardware. I have heard several reports of guys actualy getting a bite on one of those biats only to have the little metel loop that hold the hook get ripped completly out of the bait.

thanks for the info. I have never had problems with the charlie's gear. I have been using that one for about 2-3 years now. and I am on my 3rd. not because the hooks or that type of gear when bad, because the body was ripped apart. I have only caught one bass on it and it was a 4 lb smallie. I know a smallie. I was using it for Stripers schooling on Gizard Shad ( which the charie looks like). caught 2 Stripers, but the Muskie and pike seem to love them and they put a hurt on the soft body and have ripped it apart. This will be the first year for the basstrix for me.

Hey if your getting bit on a charlie then keep using it! I do disagree with you on looks though. It looks nothing like a gizzard shad or any other real fish IMO. I am by nature cheap and if I didnt make my own baits and I could get bit on a charlie thats what I would use. They just arent productive where I fish. If you think a charlie isnt very durable then wait till you fish your basstrix. I recomend getting some mend-it it will prolong thier lives ten fold
