Jig weight?

Featured Replies

How heavy jigs should i throw for a small rod with 6 lb test?

Ideally the conditions should dictate the size of jig you throw.

....... but with the information given I probably woundn't throw more than a 1/4 oz jig

Thank you. I have never fished jigs before, and I have no clue where to start.

I wouldn't throw ANY jig on 6lb line. Minimum would be 10 or 12lb line for a jig. Unless you're throwing crappie jigs..

While I agree 6 lbs line is not ideal, sometimes the conditions call for it.

There is a lake I fish here at times that is extremely clear, small, and heavily pressured.  I'll drop down to 6 lbs line with a 3/16 oz jig.

You've got balls  ;D I snapped a few 3lbers on 6lb line, so I don't try that anymore.

I've never really had a problem with 6 lb test. The fish in my picture is a little under 5 lbs and the line had no problems.

Im waiting to get my jigs out and i am planning on using 50lb braid in heavy cover and 50lb with a 17lb mono leader in clearer water. from what i have learned you  throw jigs in the nastiest of places (no pun intended) and you can get hung up easily. But given the info your can go with a 1/8 jig. personally I use my ml set up for drop shot and live bait. :(
