Getting tired of using the jig in Florida

Featured Replies

I throw the jig pretty often and I flip and cast it. It's getting frustrating how I can't seem to get a nice bite going when casting a jig and working it back. It must have to do with the eelgrass/heavy cover that all the lakes I fish have. I do great throwing a senko or even a t-rigged worm, but I want to get good with casting a jig and finessing it back.

Does anyone cast and finesse their jigs back in heavy cover water?

Is their a certain retrieve or presentation I should try when casting and working cover like eelgrass?

Let my know guys, thanks

I've fished some big jigs in that style of grass and i get the same annoying probelm. The jig seems to be a magnet for any speck of grass.  i have swam swim jigs in sparse hydrilla that works really well but i have never applied it to the cover your talking about. It should work. But i, like you found that a t-rigged worm is very weedless in these situations and is the better option imo

Use smallest and lightest jigs that won't bury up in the grass. fishing it only on top of grass. Use a light but very active jig trailer like Rage Tail chunk that has great action even on smallest jigs. Also grease them up with your favorite oily attractant like megastrike.  This makes it come thru the grass easily instead og grabbing it. You can purchase mineral oil at the grocery store that is unscented and works extremely well too.
