Hey all,

In my area, the evening cleared up at around 530pm, so I went out to my new little sanctuary. I'd been once before about a month ago, with little to show, a dink and a crappie :-? Well I went out yesterday and the bite seemed to be on. I caught 7 total. I'm guessing the largest was around 3lbs. Anyway, I've been lurking on the forums, and noticed the Nova boys and girls are a bit lethargic, so I figured I'd post up. Hope you all are catching some.

Hey Kev, good to hear from you man.  Haven't been on much myself lately but I decided to check it out and see if I saw anybody poking around.

Good job out at your little gold mine.  Still a shame we haven't hooked up yet but I know how it goes with our schedules, kids, etc.  Speaking of, how is the Mrs' and the newborn doin?  Mine is almost 8 months now.  CRAZY!!! Time flies man.  I have some videos up of him on youtube if you go there and type in Sdefreitas23 in the search bar.

We have to look ahead a month or so into June and find a day where you my dad and I can all jump in the bass boat and head to the Potomac or Anna or something.

Anyway, haven't been out a whole lot but when i have lately I have been catching them on jigs (Boo Yah, Stanley) w/ craw type trailers (Lobster and Craw by Ragetail).  Had a little bit of luck throwing T-Rigged lizards too.

Getting out this weekend on the Potomac, haven't been all year so I'm pretty excited about that.  Then my dad and I are back out there the following week fishing the "Take a Wounded Soldier" fishing event out of Gravelly Point.  Should be good times.  

Anyway take care man, I'll try to be around more and kit.  Pm me your number at some point.  Lost your contact when my cell fell in the drink late last fall (Buffalo Pond, Quantico).

Sounds like a good time.  It has been a bit quiet compared to past years on the boards but maybe everyones getting a late start.  I'll be back in the Fredericksburg/NoVA area in a week for the summer so I'll be able to hit the waters again and hopefully post some favorable reports

Jay, I've been around man, just like you, taking care of the babies.

You're right, they grow up fast, the boy is now 6 months, and the littel girl is 19 months.

We WILL wet a line this year, no doubt. I'm getting more time on the water this year already, so i know i'll hook up with some of the good folks on here.

A word on the braid. I love it for the most part. Its great when I'm fishing in the lily pads, which is where I caught most of the fish, and why I specifically set up that reel with it. But I gotta say, I love my traditional mono for its "feel" I dunno call me traditional. The noise also is a bit annoying especially with me throwing mostly spinners.

Oh yea, all the fish were caught on Senko green/white run right thru the lily pads, and the 3lber hit a large Terminator spinner with a colorado blade (thx trev ) at the edge of the pads seen in the pic.

Nice Magnesium. How is the cork handle? It looks kind of bulgy and it seems like it could be uncomfortable. I have a Mag TS flipping stick and love it

Love the rod, but I think i should have gone med/heavy. The 3lb'er was pulling like a freight train. It made me wonder if i hooked a 5'er if it would be able to muscle the fish out of the pads. About the cork grip, love it. I have pretty big hands, so its pretty comfortable. Different, but comfortable.

ml pauley: yea, love the Shimano. searched and searched for something in that price range that was competitive, and The Symetre 2500 took the win.

Looks pretty nice. There is nothing like finding a new pond. I love fishing the smaller waters.

Good job Kevin, those are some healthy chunks.  I like the pond you are fishing, it looks sweet.  You should try some Rage Tail shad or toads through the pads.

Just so this is not a complete hijack, nice fish, and nice spot.  Some of our local NOVA ponds are sprouting similar vegetation right now.

I just scored a new MgAPM70S off ebay for $100 shipped.  Its got the same (or a very similar) handle as the one posted here.  I've only fished w/ it twice so far. No problems w/ the grip, but, during the retreive I keep my index and middle fingers "above" the reel handle in contact w/ the blank, i.e. where the foregrip would be on a typical spinning rod.  So, the cork grip only comes into play on the cast, during which I have no issues with it.  Overall, a fantastic rod for light plastics at this price: surprisingly light for 7 footer, very sensitive.
