Help planning a trip to Kissimee

Featured Replies

Im planning on coming down to fish Kissimmee the day after christmas and stay for a week. Im going to be fishing out of a small jon boat, should I be ok? Anybody recommend a really cheap place to stay nearby? Any guesses on the fishing?

If by "Kissimmee" you mean Lake Kissimmee, rather than the town up on Toho, I would recommend you stay and fish at the south end of the Lake. Grape Hammock is a fish camp down there and the cabins/trailers are reasonable. That lake can get pretty rough when its windy but down at that end there are plenty of places where you can tuck in out of the wnd and that will be important with your jonboat. Just google Grape Hammock fish camp and you can get details.

Fishing should be good that time of year

Ditto on Grape Hammock.  That's the place to be in a jon boat.  You can stay out of the weather plus it's some of the best fishing on the lake.  I would try several things depending on the weather.  Top water frogs in the pads or a devils horse in open water.  Swimming jig in the pads or the opening to the boat trails off of the main river channel.  MD crank baits in the openings or over the scattered hydrilla near the channel.

Lee, If I end up going alone, which looks likely, you'll have to come fish with me when you can.

Hopefully they'll still have a cabin available there. That looks like the right place for me.

Just give me a call Andrew.  I have been doing most of my Kissimmee practicing out of Grape Hammock this year.  Nicole and I stayed in a cabin in October and loved it.  I was there last weekend and the Store/Resturant  at SR 60 has re-opened which is good news.
