VA Bass Fishing Tournaments

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a complete list of tourneys that take place in VA or close to here or a couple sites that have some? I know very little about them and I do not own a boat but I want to start fishing them as a co-angler or with my cousin. I've decided that if I could do anything in life that I would love and be happy this is the one thing I want to do, and I need to jump into it now. Appreciate it guys  :D

B.A.S.S. and FLW/TBF have open tournaments.

Here are the web sites for each.

Go to tournaments for the state tournaments and also note your geographical area for open tournaments in your region.

Check out the different parts of each site to make sure you see all tournament information.

The Children's Miracle Network tournaments may be open to everyone.

You will need $300,000 of watercraft liability to fish the FLW/TBF tournaments:

If you really want to learn the places to fish, places to launch your boat and the baits/techniques that are productive you may want to join a local bass club.

Good luck.  :)

get a copy of woods and water magazine and you'll find out about alot of them. Good luck

Check out this site http://www.hanktimmermann.com/. You will see a link for 'Spreadsheet.' This link will download a spreadsheet that pretty much covers all the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast States' tournament schedules. I believe the tabs are organized by body of water. For example, Potomac River has a huge list. It is a pretty good resource.

Tournament angling is a different ballgame than fishing for fun, it is expensive and very competitive.  I would recommend joining a bass club so you can learn co-angler etiquette and learn from guys who are experienced but who aren't out to win thousands of dollars.  If you just start fishing the big tournament as a co-angler it can be a very frustrating and expensive experience.  The boaters in the big money tournaments care about their success and are not concerned with helping a new guy out (there are expections but a big $ tournament is no place for a rookie).  Join a club and meet some guys you like to fish with, then team up with them in a Warbird team tournament or the like if you want to step up to go against the top dawgs.

In my first two years fishing tournaments as a co-angler with my club (http://www.fishonbassclub.com) I learned a ton!  When I got my boat I knew the Potomac River and Lake Anna pretty well and I was able to compete outside the club in some bigger tournaments without getting embarassed.
