Tamiami Canal

Featured Replies

Anyone fish the Tamiami Canal?  What works best in this canal, and is it better near the Miami side or Naples side?  Anyone caught double digit largemouth bass from this canal?  Thanks for all the input!

Put in at the big bend. Miami side. Lots of large bass taken there.

I've never fished it either, but I will soon and I will fish mile upon mile of this thing.  I have heard there are large double digit bass in this thing amongst several other fish species I don't care much for.  I am still pondering whether to go by boat or just drive along and walk the banks.  It seems small enough that walking it may be better, but I have no idea what it looks like towards the miami side where a boat may be more preferrable.  I can't imagine going and not being able to catch dozens upon dozens of bass there, looking at it from google earth, it seems that along US 41 most anglers would be searching for snook or tarpon???  I can't imagine there arent' bass well over ten pounds in there also.

Brackish water untill just east of hwy 29 and hwy 41 where snook and tarpon can be caught. Skip over the Big Cypress(unless you want pan fish) untill you get to the miccosukee reservation. All water on the reservation and east to the 20 mile bend (L-68)are loaded. Best bet on foot is the canal that is on the south side of the L-68. Only accessible/fishable on foot.

Coming from miami..there is a pumping station on the right. Just past it there are tarpon as well as bass. Good luck!

At the bend there's a canal called the magic canal, it borders the l-67A south end of the Holiday park canal. I think its the L 67C

You have to off the road and down past the one ramp over a levee, there a crude ramp there and the canal is narrow, it holds some of the biggest bass in the canal system, I weighed a 131/2 lb fish for a guy, and February is the best month the Hogs bed on the coral rocks.
