Lake Walk in Water

Featured Replies

hind sight is 20/20 lol

Still no news on my boat.  Between the wind, rain and holidays, they haven't been able to get it out on the water.  Next week looks like more cold weather as well.  I might just go pick it up and bring it to a local Merc Service dealer that's not so busy.

I would, I would be getting pretty frustrated by now

Good news today.  They ran the boat and tracked it down to a bad coil (or coil pack?).  Anyway the manager said that when the new part arrives he says it will run like new.  I really hope so as it was one annoying  *$#@(!+  problem!!!

I know this sounds off but I was going to say that the coil might be going bad because I had a 115 Johnson that had the same symptoms but I didn't want to give you bad advice before I double checked lol ;D but im glad you got it fixed and let me know how you do on Walk-in-Water

Well, I said I would give you guys a report, but unfortunately I have nothing to report. I threw just about everything in my bag and I did not get a single bite all day long. I threw rattle baits and chatter baits and spinnerbaits. I threw frogs, flukes, worms, and "beaver" baits. The only thing I caught was an owl who picked up my frog and got it wrapped around one of his legs. He was freed unharmed by the way. I guess it just was not my day. We fished the canals, the bulrushes, the docks, and padfields....nothing. Not sure if I will ever go back there again. Lots of great looking water and I know there are fish there....we saw a few bedding fish....but talk about discouraging......I don't think I have ever been to any lake and not gotten a single bite. I have been bitten and missed fish and not caught any....but this is the first time I never got a bite.

Well...............that sucks!! I was hoping to hear a better report.  A good friend of mine fished all day yesterday at nearby Carter Road park and got skunked as well.  We NEVER get skunked there :(   I'm sure they'll turn on once the weather stabilizes.

your right my club tourney which I did not fish on Istapoga only caught 11 fish :o, not good!! it has been a tough year for fishing in Florida

I got my boat back........FINALLY and it seems like they cured the problem.  It ran pefectly.   We fished Surveyors Lake this morning in Alturas and got SKUNKED.  Not a bite, no fish spotted, nothing breaking the surface, IT WAS DEAD.  I don't ever recall not catching anything on Surveyors.   We're going to shoot for another outing somewhere on Sunday.

well for your info I went out on Monday and got 8 in about 2hrs......bait of choice, 4 inch zoom trickworm junebug/red wacky rigged on a 3/0 Mustad black painted live bait hook and a 4 inch black/blue tail Senko :)  SLOW IT DOWN and be very patient they were biting while dead sticking it

We started out with trick worms and Senkos but once the wind picked up, we changed our strategy :) Surveyors is VERY shallow along the banks so we tried our deeper water tactics without any success.

I didn't know Zoom made a 4" trick worm....I knew they made a finesse worm, is this the same thing? junebug red is a very good color.....one that I did not have when I fished Walk-in-water.....could have made a difference.....I won't get "caught" without them again. Where were you fishin Johnny? Tarpon?....I live just down the road from there.

This is one bait where I don't believe color matters. I prefer the more natural looking ones. My son constantly whoops me using white, bright orange or yellow >:( He says that being able to see them a mile alway allows him to fish them better.

I think color means everything when using finess. Bright oarnge and yellow ;D WOW I will have to give that a shot. I was not on Tarpon but I was on a small private lake. I will be at Tarpon next weekend the 6th(gotta start preparing for the open tourney in May). The Zoom 4" Trickworm is what I call it because the look exactly the same but it is called a finess, I had never used it before and I am impressed :o.

We use the standard Zoom Trickworms but somehow we ended up with a pack of the 4 inchers as well.  I don't think either of us has tried them though.   Lots of Trickworm fans use the 3 bright colors. If you look back through the various articles on fishing them, you'll see them in use.  I seem to do best with a junebug or pumpkin seed.  As I said, my son kills them on the bright colors casting them in the grass, hydrilla pockets and aroud other cover.

If sunday works out weatherwise, we're going to hit Walk in Water.  Hopefully things will pick up.

it will probably be slow from the front, but fi you fish cover you will be fine. (hint) Isolated patches of bullrush at the north end of the lake are awsome this time of the yearhttp://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&source=hp&q=lake%20walk%20in%20water&aql=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl look north inbetween 2 canals there will be 2 big patches of bullrush, PS: click on unkle joes fish camp to go to the lake image
