Lake Anna warm side this week

Featured Replies

I had a few decent days at Lake Anna which consisted of a few firsts, first carolina rig fish, first fluke plus about another 15 or so on the fluke, and last but not least my first northern pike. Also caught them on pointers and spinnerbaits. And I went my first trip without throwing the senko at all which Im proud of myself for.

I kept going back to one particular brushpile I found which was in a small cove absolutely loaded with nice size bucks. Tons of 2-3 pound bass crusing looking to spawn. I also fished points which I rarely do and enjoyed some degree of success with a carolina rig. I managed a couple that were right at or slightly over 3 but nothing huge. The big girls appear to still be in 7 feet of water at least. Here's the pike I caught. He bumped into my fluke and then I cast right back and he slammed it. I was hoping I had a 5 pounder, well I did but wrong species. I never even saw him when he hit it like I did with several of the bass. Def some good times.

Yep, definitely a pick. I haven't caught one yet but I have caught a pike and learned to tell the difference when I was trying to figure out if the fish I caught was a pike or pick. Most people think of them as a nuisance but I'd still like to catch one.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I got a kick out of catching something different for a change. But I wouldnt wanna have to deal with these lil monsters on a regular basis. I was just glad I didnt lose any fingers or toes in the process of gettin the hook out ::) I think he was smiling cuz he had just eaten a bunch of fish, there was blood around his mouth and I hooked him in a boney part where there was no blood at all.

You wanna catch pick... go to Lunga.  Period.  Most pickerel in any lake I've ever seen.  Throw swim jigs and cranks (lipless).  Done!  Lol.

Anyway, Steve nice fish.  What Preach said man, that's too dang on funny.  That fish is like cheesin' for the camera lol.  Good stuff.

I didn't even know Anna had pickerel.  Crazy.

Can't wait to get out with you again bro.  We need to figure out a date so I can take off work.  Anna or the Potomac.  Don't matter which to me.

Nice pickerel! I doubt the blood was from any fish it ate though.

Sounds like you had a good time Steve, the pickerel can be fun to catch except when they are destroying your plastics.  I caught 7 of those toothy critters last Friday at Lunga.  They destroyed about 12 Rage Tail baby craws during the day with all of the bites I was getting.
