Dead Fish in the Potomac

Featured Replies

Hey Gang,

I fish in Ashburn, VA (mostly ponds) almost everyday that has fair enough weather. But I have been making my way to Algonkian, and other parts of the Potomac recently in pursuit of some nice smallies.

I have been seeing more dead fish than usual, the occasional sunfish here and there but I have seen a larger number of dead small mouth than in recent years. I was wondering what's going on. I have seen a few sunfish with a beige-ish growth/legion on their gills and in their mouth. What's going on here, is this normal?

Any input would be appreciated, I am really curious as to what is going on here.

Thanks,

-Snogle

Please get some pictures next time and send them to me. I know some guys that study this and they would be interested. Let me know where, how many etc!

Thanks!

or you could tell them to go out to Algonkian Park on the Potomac and have a look, in which they could also collect a water sample or fish sample to study. youre not far from there yourself either

The Riverkeepers can't be everywhere which is why the pictures are important.

Dead fish of 2-3 days ago would be long gone by now if I went out  there today. ;)

could be or maybe they're all gone  ;) . Ernie was merely offering to fwd this info to his buddy. You seem more concerned that he is, maybe you should go take a look. ;)

Knowing Pikesnogle, I simply offered to get more info if he saw more fish. And of course I am concerned....just like most folks would be.
