Advice on conditions at Lake Anna

Featured Replies

Going to lake this weekend with friends. First time fishing on lake with boat. Like to know which techniques (carolina, dropshot, texas, wacky, etc) are go to. Also what plastics to pack and what colors are working.

Do not know where launching so I guess any advice on specific locations would also be appreciated.

Know this is alot of info to ask but space is limited in vehicle and friends are mostly cat fishermen with no bass experience.

Thanks

Wow you couldn't have picked a worse weekend to fish Anna!!!

It is filled with boaters this weekend so be careful and take your time and pay close attention to what's all around you at all times.

What has been working for me is top water buzz baits in the early am especially between Duke's creek and Sturgeon's creek as you move closer to the mid morning mid day switch to live bait and I would say to stay around the islands between the 2 creeks mentioned earlier and as you progress to the evening hours after you run out of live bait I have been having some good success with trick worms from Valentine's cove all the way up to the 208 bridge on a T-rig.

If I were you I would launch early and probably at the state park or at Anna point...Sturgeons is most likely going to be slammed!!

Good luck be safe and be happy!!

Thanks Nitro

I am bringing my own PFD and my friends fish there a couple of times a year so they know the drill with VDGIF.

I bank beat the rivers and smaller lakes in my area so this is like country mouse goes to big city. ;D  I have always heard that its like fishing on I95 during rush hour.  I do not have any real great expectations but I like to be prepared for local conditions if possible.

Thanks again

Your Welcome just be sure to bring a lunch box full of pacience with you, Oh and to be more specific those trick worms are made by Zoom and I use the watermelon/red 6 and 8" around the docks they work pretty good for me.

Good luck be safe and have fun!!

Docks have produced about half of my fish on Lake Anna. I throw T-rigged worms in brown or green pumpkin. Most of the others have been caught off of crankbaits off points in about 8 feet of water. Brown crankbaits have seemed to work the best. We have always launch out of Hunters Landing. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Mort,

If the guys are not bass fisherman may I suggest bringing live bait?

Wal-Mart has good deals on Nightcrawlers and you can stock your well with minnows.

On a normal day One Fish Anna is a pain but as stated above, there will be a lot of a-holes and elbows on that lake and using artificial baits may not produce any results.

Take along lots of Nightcrawlers and minnows and go out and have fun.

And once again, as stated above, DG&IF will be on the water so be sure to have a seat cushion in the open; a PFD for everyone in the boat; fire extinguisher; and fishing licenses in sight or ready to give to the game wardens.

Be safe as there will be a lot of people who do not know how to operate a watercraft on One Fish Anna this weekend.  :)

Yep I can tell you have been there a time or two Sam.

I was there weekend before last and had a boater come straight at me I made a move to the starboard side he matched it so I did the opposite he matched it then I had to make an emergency move and as he went by he threw his hands up at me as if I was the one at fault.
