Fishing Around the Potomac

Featured Replies

So i have spent the past few days scanning over google earth countless hours trying to figure out the potomac and where might be some decent places to try and go out fishing. Anyone have any decent spots out along the potomac?

Are you on foot, a kayak/canoe, motor boat?

The Potomac is a big river...smallies in the upper, greenies for many miles starting in DC and then a saltier portion.

Do some searching right here (search around some past posts) as there are tons of places (general areas) that have been talked about and discussed.

Sounds good, thanks! I have been looking around the site so hopefully will come across something good. I will likely be on foot fishing from the shore, although I am thinking of buying a cheap kayak if i find a good deal!! I was thinking of heading out to Kepheart bridge park and walking up that creek some fishing it up to where it joins the potomac and see how the fishing is! May head out there tomorrow afternoon if i find the time, its kind of a ways for me from ffx but if there are fish there im willing to make the drive!! Anyone been up that way as of late?

I was just at Kipheart yesterday/this morning. Water is really low, as low as I have ever seen it. I walked down the middle of the Goose almost all the way to the Potomac and caught about 5 smallies over a period of 2 hours yesterday evening. I was throwing a green Bomber crankbait and 4" bright red senkos wacky rigged.

This morning I got there around 7AM but this time I walked all the way to where Goose/Potomac meet. I had some good luck in the shallows with a 1/4 oz white buzzbait. Like I said the water is wayy down and there was a lot of river weed along the banks so I threw the buzzbait right along that, with some success. Then I threw some senkos in a variety of colors and had some luck. I think I caught one large mouth and 6-7 smallies this morning in maybe 3.5 hours.

Some good fishing there. Also you might want to check out  Elizabeth Mills Park, as it's right down the street from Kipheart.

Good luck brother.

Awesome! Yea i definitely think I need to check this place out, thanks for the advice!! I haven't fished the potomac before so should be an adventure for sure. I got used to fishing the rivers in ohio so hopefully there will be some good fishing here too.
