Thanks! Pumpkinseed/chartreuse ZOOM Lizards, just pinch the head off, throw a jig head through them, so the ball is now the "head" and have at it. I don't need to be weedless where I fish... All rock-bottom streams with minimal grass/weeds.

I LOVE the bluestone river. best kept secret in WV. i fish around pipestem state park all the time..... very nice fish!

Thanks! I just stumbled upon it after having little luck on the New River. (3 trips, 1 smallie. might go 1lb on a good day. lol.) So I went to Bluestone, a friend and I took the tram down to the bottom, and then hiked 4 miles towards the lake, and waded most of the way back. We've done that 2x now and both times caught excellent fish... These are definitely the bigger 2 so far, but it already seems quite promising. Obviously, this is an all-day event. Usually on a sunday.

nice bass. wife and i have made that same fishing trip but its been a few years ago after we moved out of state we have not been back to Bluestone River.

try a watermelon colored baby brush hog

X2 on the Baby Brush Hog comment..  I use them on the Upper Potomac and they produce almost every time... maybe even tied with 4" pumpkin Senko's for my "guaranteed bites" lure.

Aut0 - I've fished the New and the Greenbrier, but never Bluestone.  Is there an easier way to get to the fishable waters besides than taking the Tram and hiking?

if there is i dont know about it.... i do the same thing this guy does. but trust me, you wont regret it. it is well worth it. you can also count on seeing some deer, turkey, and other wildlife. its a small river, but its loaded.

Yea, rowyourboat summed it up... Every time we've gone we've seen at least 2 deer, most of the time they will be running the trails and come within 15 yards while neither party is paying attention. haha.

As far as getting there without the hike, no, since motors are not allowed on the trails, but as ryb said, it's definitely worth it. I am by no means a Bass fishing expert, but over there I've had a LOT of success.

there is a small bait store in hinton, near the dam. you cross the bridge and turn like you are going up the greenbrier river, its on the right, cant miss it. prices are reasonable. but you can pick them up at most dicks/gander mountains/ and even some walmarts...
