Worth a shot...

Featured Replies

So I shot an e-mail to a friend to see if he would like to join me at Lake Ida. He was a go, so I looked forward to the outting, especially when someone is fishing new waters. So, my alarm clock goes off at 6:00, and I head out to the patio and everything about the morning said to me..."Are you stupid...go back to bed"! It was in the low 60's, and I know some of you here would kill for that temperature right now, but 10-20 MPH winds made it feel colder. But, I forged on! We met at the ramp at 8:15 a.m., and got the yaks ready:

My first cast was with a Rapala lipless crank which I just bought. First cast...boom...but not much fight. It was dead weight, but moving. It was a freakin Snapper Turtle...Terrific. I did everything I could to try and get my new lure back, but I would have had a easier time getting a nun to put out, so I gave up and cut the hook right at the shank...Remember what the morning said to me earlier???

The river was almost white capping, so we had to fish the smaller canals that ran in between the residential areas, as well as one that ran right under Interstate 95:

This seemed to at least get us out of the wind, and Sam was quickly catching fish on soft plastics worked along the bottom:

The water was cruising, but the "Wacky" rig delivered for me:

Shortly after, Sam caught another one right after mine:

Awhile later, I caught this spunky little guy right under a old wooden dock:

It was a cold windy day, but we each boated a few fish, and it was great to fish with a new friend...which is what this sport is all about! We head back to the ramp, chat for awhile, and made our way home...Tight Lines!!!
