Okeechobee/ Everglades Spring Break

CABIN FEVER!!

Hey guys, I've google-searched the heck out of Okeechobee reports, guide services, hotels, and as much general information as I could. One of my best buds and I are planning college senior trip for SB the week of March 14th to the Big O and/or FL in general. It will be my first time fishing FL, but I love the idea of the heavy cover and shallow water.

I found plenty of reviews on area hotels, but it was much more difficult to find any reviews or ratings on the variety of guide services available. I was wondering if anyone had any input or experiences? The majority of what I've read is about Roland Martin Marina.. I know some members are from the immediate area and I'd really appreciate your comments as well.

We were thinking of perhaps a guided day and then a day of boat rental. Also visiting a friend in Miami and thought about giving the Everglades a go? We get to stay for free in Miami and would definitely fish the 'glades hard.

Thanks a ton guys I appreciate any little tip or pointers on fishing FL or the experience in general.

Capt Shane is a must for the Glades

If fishing out of Roland Martin I like Steve Daniels.

I'm 30 miles from the Big O and grew up in NE Indiana.  Where are you from?  Earl Park was my home.

If you want to add a peacock trip to your visit down in Miami, I would suggest Alan Zaremba. PM me for a phone number. Roland's is as good as there is in Clewiston plus the guide service is right there. Steve Daniel is a great guide and will teach you as well as put you on fish. I was his practice partner these past 3 days for the FLW event and I learn something new and useful everyday.

Like mentioned above Zarambas the man for Peacoks,I used to fish with him when he was a Bass fisherman, he lives 2 blocks from me. I used to laugh at him for always going and fishing those Miami canals for Peacoks, now he makes a living doing it.

If going out of the North end of Okeechobee go to Gerrards Tackle and try to get Larry Wright or his son Cody, hes the man up there. One of the best fisherman on the lake.

Does Scott Martin do alot of guiding anymore?  I know he has a pretty full schedule on the tour.

I was watching the Scott Martin Challenge on TIVO this morning. He was fishing Okeechobee and went up against one of his pro buddies fishing Lake Falcon. Scott had a 34lb bag...and lost!

I think I've got a couple new waypoints on the TIVO, though!  ;)

Once the tournament season starts he doesn't guide much although off season he will. That show was great. It's funny how 441,000 acres of "everything looks the same" and a spot that Scott fished in that show can look so identifiable on a show or a photo

Thanks guys I really appreciate the input!

This 12+ inches of snow that just got dumped in my yard is really preparing me for some open water!
