my sons are peacock happy!

Featured Replies

we are making the trek to FLA again for spring break and staying in Kissimmee. my sons are asking about peacocks so I'm asking you at BR. I have been following the story about the loss of peacocks since last yrs cold snap and I am wondering how far south I would have to go to get a few peas off shore. its about 3 hrs to Miami so I am aware of the distance. tackle/actual locations can be sorted out later if its feasible.

thanks

For reliable results, you need to go all the way to Dade. South of the Alley in Broward a maybe here and there (Griffin Canal?) North of the Alley, not likely

yeah if you are going to make the trip you might as well go all the way where your chances are better. Head to Dade county. C-100, Snapper creek canal.

Hit the miami airport lakes system for guaranted Pcock success!

Antonio Maceo Park has a launch ramp right into Blue Lagoon at the Miami Intl. Airport.  I personally haven't fished it, but there is supposed to be some fantastic peacock fishing in that lake.

i think dade/south-dade would be your best bet. the c-100 canal is great but the fish there seem really picky about what they will take. the big upside to the canals is that there are also largemouth , mullet , tarpon and other random species in there. ive heard great things about the airport lakes too.

live bait is always the best bet for any kind of action but fluke type baits do well.

any 6'+ M/F spinning rod will do fine imo.

I appreciate the help...just to note that we will be bank fishing so the lakes are out. (I guess "off shore" should have read "off OF shore"...or bank...sorry)

If things are so good down there, maybe a guide would be a plan, but we will stick with the bank for now.

Any bank spots would be appreciated. Its pretty clear that we will end up somewhere around the Miami area.

Call Capt. Mark Hall in Miami. He is very reasonable and knowledgeable. He does lots on the fly but conventional as well.
