How is Stick Marsh these days?

Featured Replies

In 25 days I am going to hook up the Stratos to the truck and drive to Fellsmere and fish Stick Marsh for a week.  I have not seen a fishing report in a while.  How are the conditions?  Is the wind blowing and water temperatures down or is everything normal?  Any signs of the spawn yet?  Any information would be appreciated!

Don't limit yourself to the Stick Marsh/Farm Pond area, try Ansin Garcia of the wind is blowing and Blue Cypress.  You should do well since early Feb to March is usually good.

Anyone fished Stick Marsh lately?

I had 22 to 6# on Monday by myself in half a day.

Tuesday, myself and one person had 35 and lost about another 20. Toads, Traps, Senkos. Our 2 biggest fish came unbuttoned on Toads. 6 to 7# or so.

Grass is coming back real good. Water levels are holding steady and the water is very clean in most areas. A cold front and some high winds could change that overnight.

The spawn is in full swing. The majority of fish I'm getting are egged up. Heck, you can even see some beds if you're in the right area. That doesn't happen very often on Stick Marsh.

The first 4 acre grass restoration project is scheduled to be completed by June of this year. If it works, they will consider building them all the way across the outside wood in the south end of Farm 13. That's according to the FWC guy in charge of the project that I talked to at the ramp.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. ;)

The grass restoration is a key, for that place!

Steve P,

That's great news!

I believe it was you, Steve, who posted awhile ago showing a small patch of hydrilla forming. Any update on how the hydrilla is coming back??

My dad lives on Lake Pierce (Polk County) not to far from Stick Marsh and the water temp is in the upper 60's. The water in L.P. is very stained and it is hard to see bed's but with the temps reaching 70 the big girls should be coming in shallow soon. He has had some luck throwing weightless plastics around pads but mostly hooking smaller bass. I'm heading down on the 16th and with water temps right for the spawn and coming into a full moon my expectations are high.

good luck with your trip to S.M.

Steve,

Thank you for the information!  We usually end up fishing the south end until the wind gets over 10 MPH.  Are the hydrilla areas clearly marked?  I started fishing Stick Marsh long after the grass was gone.  Sounds like you are having great days and things are going well!  I can't wait to get down there!

Here's one from today. Got her on a Horny Toad. I found a new area today that is stacked up with egg laden females. Shoot me an email before you come down and I'll let you know what's going on.
