Tennessee Spring time

Featured Replies

Looking for some info on springtime fishing down in Tennessee, me and a buddy are looking to fish down at Reelfoot lake in Tn. and were wondering when the best time would be (mid march, end march, begin april?) if anyone could help out we would really appreciate it..

Thanks,

Rob

tip #1 pray for rain

tip #2 if you like your boat, take your buddies boat

tip #3 rent a boat

tip #4 its basically a 16,000 acre Cypress swamp and wall to wall stumps. And the water is lower than normal.....so its really shallow.

tip #5 What ever week you go, you should have been there the week before, or the next week after you leave, the fish will be jumpin in the boat.

Tip #6: Pay attention to what all the good ole boys are doin'  and do the same.

Tip #7 Go to kentucky lake or pickwick.... ;)

I agree.....scrap realfoot and go to the BR outing at Kentucky Lake.

Showed my dad this thread, he kind of laughed and said great lake to get a boat tore up.

If you want to Crappie fish this is one of the best lakes in the country and mid to late March is a good bet fishing wise and weather wise. just remember it could be snowing also.

This lake is not a good lake to take a fiberglass bass boat. You can't avoid all of the stumps, you just can't period. You've been warned. If you have a jon boat take it, you'll be glad you did. If you have a jet outboard even better. A lot of boat rental, resort/fishing lodges went out of business in the last couple of years so I'm not sure about rentals.

Most of the local guys including the guides fish a spider rig shallow just slowly bumping along looking for bites. But you can also fish for them under floats with good success using a hair fly tipped with a minnow. Success is usually determined by weather and lake levels..................Al
