Clear Lake march 8th

Featured Replies

A couple of buddies and I are driving up from phoenix to clear lake and are planning on fishing from the 7th or 8th until the 12th. We are also hitting up the delta but we've fished the delta before.

How is the bite going to be on clear lake after the FLW stren series, and how is the bite in March? Big swimbaits?

I'm clueless

It all depends on the weather and the water temp. It can be good fishing or really tough at that time of year. Bring some rip baits with you  ;)

Bantam1, we are heading up there in April-May time. Where should we stay? I mean like what area of the Lake to be close to the best fishing that U know of?

tnx,

phil

There is a Casino/Hotel on the north end of the lake. I can't remember the name right now, but the rooms are nice and they have a launch ramp and docks. I think you can keep your boat in one of the slips.

A cool B&B on the north end : http://www.arborhousebnb.com/

You can also stay at Konocti Casino: http://www.konocti-vista-casino.com/

On the south end you can stay at Konocti Resort : http://www.konoctiharbor.com/accommodations/

Personally I prefer the south end. As was mentioned, Clear Lake can be really finicky in March. Rip Baits, Jigs, Shakey Heads, Drop Shot, Swimbait.

:D

Thanks for the info. I'll use it no doubt. I'll post pics if I get into them.

What kind of ripbaits do you guys throw??

What kind of swimbaits?

How deep should I throw swimbaits/ripbaits? We have some DEEP lakes here, but i know clear lake is pretty shallow

++ Do you guys recommend any particular guide services? We will probably get a guide one or two days.

I heard there was this guy Jay who takes people out for a $1000 a day.  But he guarantees you a ten pound fish!  Problem is you get out there and he sets you up with a dough ball and you catch carp all day long  ;D

Ripbaits:

Pointer 100 \

Pointer 128   -- Chart Shad, Skeets Magic

Staysee 90  /

Swimbaits:

3:16 Rising Son

3:16 Mission Fish

6" Huddleston

Depends on the weather how deep I would fish. But somewhere between 1 and 15 feet for the most part. If it stays really cold I might back out to 20-25 and fish rock piles.

Don't forget a baitsmith hitch(Blue Ghost). Few years back Sieg Taylor won the FLW on Clearlake with that swimbait. There are tons of hitch in Clearlake.

Online, check out TackleIt Bait & Takle in Lakeport and LakeShoreBait & Tackle in Clear Lake, CA. Both post updated fishing reports on a regular basis. FLW will be posting the Stren weigh-ins. If no, check the Konocti Resort site for reports. I have been told by my guides that Tuesday-Fridays are the best time to fish to avoid the tournaments. After this weekend, all the tournaments are small 40-50 boat events, so we'll be able to find spots to fish around them. Other than that, it's first come first served on any spot and just don't crowd a guy or cut him off. I'll be on the lake during the last week in March, so keep the info coming. This one came in June, 2007.

Another vote for Tackle-it in Lakeport .. it's on Main and 11th st.

Can also come in from the water to the docks. He's got a big banner out there.

Dont forget your Mussel insp Sticker... call Ed and he'll get ya going strait.    707-262-1233
