ATV's

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy an ATV to have some fun with mostly just riding it around and not really using it for work. I'm looking to get a utility model instead of a sport but I don't want one of the really big ones , just a preference. I'm thinking the Honda Recon seems like it would be really nice, right size and seems to be a decent price. I was wondering if anyone has any experince with them. Also what about 4x4? I'm gonna want to take it out in the snow and was wondering if not being 4x4 would be a problem. I don't really have any experience with them except some limited riding.

Thanks in advance,

ive got the honda rancher es        and my dad has the recon 2wd        mines awd           and in the snow around here his is useless i can go anywhere   ive also got a plow on it  and it works beautiful in the snow       i suggest getting 4wd

That's interesting that his becomes useless. Obviously I don't know the conditions they were referring in reviews I just found but alot of people didn't have a problem with it getting stuck. They also may have be referring to mud. Thanks for your response and I kinda figured that I might hear that it would be getting stuck. I may have to rethink the Recon since planned on using it in the snow.

Thanks,

If you haven't had much experience with them then please take the new riders class they offer. I should be free.

fluke I did see a few references to that and thought it might be a good idea. Actually one of the companies offered $100 back if you do.

it wasnt totally useless    but it wasnt gonna go where mine would go ;)    and the coure is free and they do pay the hundred bucks    only lasted around two hours  and you do learn a few things   good luck

I was in surgery tonight with a guy who wrecked on his ATV. (He is a sponsored pro rider) All he did was break his arm, but if it wasn't for his helmet he would be dead. His $400 top of the line helmet broke in two peices. Be careful and be safe.

That's a good story. I have many more bad ones if you want to read them.

fluke first off thank you for the concern. I've read quite a few of the stories that your are talking about. Although slightly different I do know a girl would almost was killed by brain injuries on a snow mobile. I've also been checking out different helmets and some other gear in between studying for finals. If you or anyone else has a recommendation on what to get or not get when buying a helmet please let me know aswell (brands, etc.).

Again thanks,

Thanks, I guess I really should have said I wasn't considering anything else. I've noticed that's what they where when I've seen them race on TV so it seems like it would logically be the choice.

Yea we had a young man come in earlier this year who ran head first into a large tree going around 25mph. If it wasn't for that face-shield he wouldn't have walked out of the ER three hours later.

Safety is something alot of people do tend to forget with everything. The little things like the face shield can definitely make a huge difference.
