The REAL Tred Barta

Featured Replies

Anyone who has Versus channel (formerly OLN) must ahve seen the show, "The Best and worst of Tred Barta."  He's a local that I've know for about 20 years now, and I just crack up every time I see an article like this... http://www.newsday.com/features/printedition/ny-etlede4991953nov27,0,1089077.story

Lemme tell you, from personal experience, this guy is a nut job all the way through.  Nice guy?  Absolutley.  Good fisherman/hunter?  100% on both.  When it comes down to it, though, he's about 2 sandwiches short of a picnic.  He might tell you the propper way to do something, but if you were to see him in action you'd say, "Who is this yo-yo?"

When I was 14, he and his partner kept a boat in the marina where I worked.  I remember him climbing up the piling to the weigh platform and doing "muscle-man" poses.  No joke.  That same summer, he and his partner brought in a 892 lb. Mako.  I've also seen him go away for an over-nighter and leave his dog locked up in his truck.

On a personal level, I've always liked him, but from an editorial standpoint, I think he should strat to practice what he preaches...

I watch some of his shows on tv!  I like how he uses traditional archery equipment and how he speaks his mind. It would be interesting to go on a hunt/ or even go fishing with this fellow see how squirley he is !

Good article.  I have watched Tred Barta on Versus for over a year now.  Is he over the top? YES!  Is he borderline kookoo??  Probably....Anyone would have to be to hunt dangerous game with a recurve bow.

However, his message is something that everyone should listen to.   Whatever you do, do it to the best of your abilities and do not fear failure.  Failure means you gave it your best effort, your best shot, and THIS time it may or may not have been good enough, so keep at it, keep practicing, keep trying until you are good enough....

If that message got through to all the young people today, man, imagine what this country would be like in a few years...
