I plan on taking garbage bags to a local pond i fish that a lot of people dump garbage and kids leave beer cans. It used to be a wildlife refuge but i believe it lost funding and is not maintained anymore. I will do a lap around the pond and pick up all the garbage i see then start my day fishing.

Anyone else plan on doing anything??

On a second note I always pick up some garbage when fishing because that is what my dad taught me to do some 20 odd years ago when i started fishing. I just plan on picking up alot more on Sunday.

You could have gotten kids involved with that by planning ahead and offering the one with the most trash wins a prize and get the local pizza place to donate food and drinks.

I have seen this kind of thing done in the past. Also help clean up the area faster if more people help.

Then ya can fish sooner...

I like "Earth day".

It basically says "remember this planet and take care of it"

but it does so without all the grandstanding and psychostatistical bovine scat

I think I'll clean up the launch area.

I don't intend on celebrating Earth Day.  Sure, I pick up trash when and where I see it (that shouldn't occur on a single day), but in my opinion, God created the Earth for humans to thrive on.  Animals were made to hunt, fish were made to catch, water was made to drink.  "Mother Earth" did not create us.  Of course, I don't believe that dumping pollution into the air or pumping sludge into the water is ok.  That, my friend, is just wrong.  However, I'm not entirely into the whole recycling kick, turning in every can, planting trees three times a day, etc.

good point squid about getting kids to help but with my wife and i moving into a new house i have just been too busy to plan anything major plus i do not want to give away my secret fishing spot to too many people!

I agree with Troutfisher in that I'm not going to do anything any different than any other day.  I'm no "tree-hugger" but I try to make a habit of "packing out more than I pack in".  I keep my thermostat at 78, recycle aluminum cans, conserve water when I can, turn off the TV and lights, and keep the fridge door closed as much as I can (among other things).  As for Sunday, I'll do my part by doing what I do every Sunday. . . resting myself and the earth and praising my God for all of it.

In a nutshell, it's great that someone sees fit to recognize an "earth day", but it's an indictment upon the U.S. that we don't recognize it on a daily basis.
