Computer help

Hi guys,

I got a new monitor today.

I went from a 19" square to a 20" widescreen.

It's very cool, but it seems that photo's and other images, are stretched wide.

I'm sure it's a settings thing.

Help please.

thanks

avid.

Geezz! Even I know an easy fix. Get a roll of black electrical tap 1" in diameter Paste it along the edges of your monitior and you are back to a 19" screen.

What is the native resolution of the new monitor?

To ascertain what resolution you are currently running, right click on an open area of the desktop, the click on Properties.  Once the Display Properties box is open, go to the Settings tab.

Screen resolution slider should be in the lower left corner.  Set that to the native resolution of the monitor.

Let me think out loud here .... hmmmmm .... Avid is requesting help and I could help him - but - he just threw a bunch of insults at me under my "Outings" post and I was deeply hurt.    Avid, go pee up a rope!

what can I say?

The man is a genius.

All set Avid?

Well, I been peeing up that rope for an hour and the dang computer still ain't working right.  Long Mike you don't know chit!!!

but Burley, you nailed it dude.

The problem is that by going from a 19" square to a 20" wide, the resolution/hz settings are different.

Unfortunately, my video card does not support the required settings.  I called and there is no download.  I could buy upgrades, but I ain't spending another dime.

so tomorrow, back to circuit city.  I got a nice 19" square LG picked out with the same requirements as my last monitor, so that should do it.

Thanks to y'all.  Hey mike What do use to get that dang urine smell offen ya?

I figured that would be the case.

What was the native resolution on the monitor?

What was the native resolution on the monitor?

1260 X 800?

Not sure now, because I found a monitor with the same resolution and it is vastly improved.  the difference that I'm sure about is that my other was set at 75HZ and this one would optimize at 60 HZ, but it is not offered as an option on the dropdown.

Do you think this makes much difference?

I'm no expert, but I don't see how the change from 75 Hz to 60 Hz would cause distortion and stretching when viewing photos.

When you're talking about the 'dropdown', are you referring to the directions I gave above or the monitor's on-screen menu?

the dropdown was the video card available settings.

No, I don't have any distortions.  It's looking fine,

I just noticed when going over the specs that when giving resolution figures the old one was 1260 X 800 with 75 hz,  and this one is 1260 X 800 but with 60 hz.  so I was just wondering.

You were a big help.

I got a 19" LCD square LG and it is excellent

thanks.

Are you refering to the refresh rate?. Mine is set at 85hz.  Your eyes may become  fatigued sooner if the rate is too low.

Glad you got it straightened out.  Adding peripherals can be quite maddening at times.  I once spent 2 days installing a new CD-RW drive.
