BB KING AND AL GREEN

Featured Replies

HEY I WENT TO SEE BB KING AND AL GREEN TONIGHT; THIS is not meant to insult anyone, but this is my spiritual connection with God, I don't believe in any religion but I do belive in GOD. Blues/soul have always brought me to a spiritual plce and it remains so today. I have not been to a show in 5 years and I am glad I picked this one. Two masters, genuine stars ( not pre packed ,video driven, lipsynhing money machines for SONY) Two masters one BB KING 81 years old, cutting tunes since 1949 and the other AL Green since 66'.

Al was on first, as always an all MEMPHIS band, professionals who wer smoking and always in the pocket!Highlight of his great set an Alcapella version of AMAZING GRACE ,sung with his 2 daughters.

BB Took the stage, with basically the same ALL MEMPHIS band he has beenplaying with for the last 10 years. It started to rain , and it was no longer safe for the horn section. He, the other guitar player and the bassist moved back on the stage and sat in chairs and along with the drummer PERFORMED MAGIC, MUSICAL CONNECTION WITH THE AUDIENCE. BB Just said " I picked cotton in the rain.I can play this guitar in the rain, if ya all wanna listen in the rain" About 1/2 the crowd stayed, those that left really blew it.

BB Started telling stories , everything from growing up in the time of segragation to women, poverty, women, riches oh and women. The highlight was a seguay of stories and tunes that included

SWEET LITTLE ANGEL, NO BODY LOVES ME BUT MY MOTHER AND I THINK SHE'S JIVING ME TOO, HOW BLUE CAN YOU GET AND ENDING WITH THE KEYS TO THE HIGHWAY. It brought me to tears, the healing power of the blues is awesome and powerful!!!!!! In the middle of Keys,BB said Ya All know I am gonna die on stage, playing this here guitar,, AND I HOPE THAT IS HOW HE GOES OUT, he has said that many time ( I have seen him over 50 times in my life)

My favorite all time ,live performer will always be OTIS REDDING, he remains the greatest I have ever seen on stage,he was always able to put the audience in his pocket by the second tune. Jimi Henrix,Miles Davis and BB KING are just right behind him.

I made a commitmnent to start playing again, I have been clean for over 15 years and music is no longer tied to using drugs in my brain anymore. I don't know on what level but someday soon i will be at a drum kit, playing the blues again 8-)

Good stuff Muddy. My sister and I went to see BB King at the Maryland Theater in Hagerstown back in the 80's and I knew some people so when the concert was over ( he was wonderful, I might add ) we went out back to meet him by his bus and he invited us on board to talk for a little and have a glass of wine. I was star struck. He signed my guitar strap and we just talked about life. I and my sister were amazed at how he was such a nice and down to earth guy. I will never forget that evening. He makes you feel at home at his concerts.

God is where you find him Muddy.

You found him in the blues.  Trust me, you ain't the only one.

As you well know, the genesis of the blues is suffering. Suffering has brought more people to spiritual awareness than any other human state of being I can think of.

I can't express in words how elated I am that you had such a moving experience.  An epiphany that will bring you back to your first love.  The blues, and playing drums, but from a new direction.  You will approach it with clarity and pure, unconditional love.

My heart rejoices for you.

All love to you and Elaine.

Go rent Black Snake Moan   Samuel Jackson does a great job .....he's a retired Blues singer and really sings in the movie. I bought the sound track

Within the past few years I have really started to like/appreciate music my grandfather used to play when I was younger/childhood.  BB King and Al Green just happen to be two of them.

Sounds like a good show and sounds like you had a great time

My friend that lives there actually goes to Tipitinas a lot so we will probably end up there. Thanks for the suggestions.

Muddy, Penns Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA is having: Blues on the Mountain Featuring The Campbell Brothers & Shemekia Copeland on October 13th. Tickets are only $20 in advance if you're interested. And on November 17th, they're having Joe Bonamassa and Sam Bush, and tickets are $22 in advance.

Pat Benatar is there this Thursday, and with everything going on, I forgot to get tickets for my wife's birthday (I'm in the dog house once again).
