Word on the street from the Ticket, radio sports station in Dallas, coach Fran's contract has been bought out.

Looks like Texas A&M will be searching for new coach.   Bout time, Fran hasn't done nothing for the college or the Big XII.

RW,

Didn't Coach Callaghan just get a contract extension recently?   and for what did they base that on?  a 9-5 record last year, now they have to propose a buyout for that extension.

Same with the Aggies, Fran just got contract extension also, and now they have to do buy out.     I don't understand colleges giving extensions to coaches who have done nothing for the program.

Fran dug his own grave with that insider newsletter BS.

You don't understand Texas Aggie football.    Its about beating us t-sips, not about what he makes on the side.

Winning is the motivating factor at most colleges that have a winning tradition.

Matt, Have you got anything concrete on that (i.e. press conference, etc.)? I'm thrilled to hear it, but won't be happy until I see it in writing. "Beating the t-sips". Well, we did that last year and that was probably what saved his job then. I think the newsletter incident combined with a whipping from Miami and a slapping from Tech (we are 1-6 vs. them)was the last straw. I'm sure the big $$$ alums saw fit to send him packing. I hope we get a quality replacement.

What is the newsletter incident?

I did not hear about it.

And do you all want Tubby from Auburn at A&M?

A&M has such a proud tradition and clean program that I am wondering if Tubby from Auburn is the guy to turn the program around into an annual winner and BCS Bowl candidate?

Time will tell.

Send Fran to Auburn.  That would really stick it to the Bama faithful. ;D

Sam,

Fran was selling "insider information" like injury reports, practice performance, schemes, etc. to big $$$ alumni people for $1200 a year.  I think he may have made close to $20,000 from it.  AD Bill Byrne and the university were never aware of this until it came to light by a reporter.

Fisher,

Norm of the Ticket, 1310 sports Radio Dallas, reported that he would finish the year out and his contract will be bought out.    Some of the normal Aggie football forums have locked these threads up as the report spread early yesterday morning.    Other Aggie fans say as soon as one is started, its locked down, who knows, I did her more about the two coaches, Callaghan and Franchione, on ESPN 103.3 last night reporting the same things as we heard earlier.

The big outcry from fans and Alumns, are what did these coachs do to deserve the extensions and more money.

Yes, he sure did!  A very large contract as a matter of fact. A 5 year deal, worth something like 8 million (not for sure on the $ amount).  And you want to know what it was based on, our win over Nevada.  Yes I said Nevada.  Which was our first game.  Nevada is horrible.  The reason for the extension was that they have seen "progress" with our football team.   HA!  And who gave him the contract extension?  I'm glad you asked.  Yup, you guessed it, Steve Peterson. Our former Athletic Director, which his contract was just extended this past July for 5 year worth over $2 million.  Which has to be paid.

All I can say is:

WELCOME BACK TOM OSBORNE!!!  GO HUSKERS

It's about time. Yall are just getting a dose of everything I warned my ag friends about. Just one other thing to say...ROLL TIDE!

Callahans buyout will be much less than the entire contract amount.  It had a year to year option at the descretion of the University.  Approximately 3 to 4 million.  It was given to him for the sole purpose of evening out the recruiting playing field of other Big XII coaches who was using the 1 year left to their advantage.  We will now probably lose the entire 2008 recruiting class that currently ranks at #7 nationally.

Sad times ahead again for Nebraska.  Hopefully we can right the ship.

Hey guys,

College football is cyclical like almost everything else, including our weather patterns.

Look at the top schools today and each school has had some years that were not productive.

LSU crushed Southern Cal 23-3 in 1984 at USC.

Alabama has fallen on tough times.

Michigan has had its ups and downs.

Florida went 0-10-1 one season.

And enough said about Notre Dame.

So you Nebraska fans - just stay calm. The Huskers will return. As will Texas and Texas A&M and a lot of other schools.

But for now, let's just enjoy another crazy year of college football and wait for the NCAA to strip Southern Cal of all of its victories and its AP National Championship due to Reggie Bush's behavior.

Now that will be fun.  ;D

Yeah,  I just hope J-train didn't guarantee a win this week.  We saw what that got him last week.  Every time he's opened his mouth, we've lost. (Miami and Tech)

Wow!

Not good to do that.

I can see why he has to go.

I wonder if he was having anyone place bets for him n the side?

If so, you neve could prove it.

Maybe Tubby will be going to Aggie land.  I hope not.  He has a leg up on Saban with recruiting in Alabama and if he leaves for A&M then Saban will control the entire state and part of the southeastern US.

Thanks for the info.
