Casting Techniques - Skipping

Featured Replies

Hey, I seen a few videos of people skipping baits, and it looks amazing, seems to me if you can learn this technique you can get your baits under over hanging trees with pretty much a 100% chance of not hanging up in one of the branches.

Because of this it seems pretty important to me that I should learn it. I use a spinning reel so can you perform this cast on this type of reel? Also are there any specific baits that you cannot skip? The baits I'd like to skip are soft plastics and jigs, so hopefully there skippable. Can anyone give me some advice on how to do this cast, or any videos/articles on the subject? Thanks for any help.

Spinning reels and soft plastics and jigs are perfect for skipping.  I really don't know how to explain how to do it.  Just generate a lot of speed on the cast and keep it low to the water.  Just like skipping a rock.  I do this on a baitcaster on occasion, but I suck at it

Do a "search" for skipping. Folks did a real good job on it (spinning and bait casters) a couple of days ago ;)...

As for baits to "learn" on, I would definitely have to say a senko, trickworm, fluke, and tube are by far the best for skipping.

Fishing around trees??? Try to put a small nail in the rear of a senko or trickworm and you dont even have to try to skip it.It just does it. ;)

i think LBH has a video of him explaining and demonstrating on how to do it???
