Fishing Buddy Boat

Featured Replies

Well, I thought I'd seen it all with the fishing pen.  Now you can buy the fishing buddy boat which operates by remote control. It apparently "trolls" a hook and when a fish is on, you simply steer the boat back to you and lift it from the water, fish and all.  Love to see a big bass get a hold of one of these.  ;D  What won't they think of next ::)

I worked a kids trout pond at the St. Louis Boat & Sporting Show not too long ago. That company had a stand and a guy from the club bought one and we messed around with it in the trout pool. It's actually pretty cool just to mess around with. Only bad thing is, that the batteries go down pretty quick.

i cant remember the show i saw this on....it was on the VS channel. there were these two pros were having a competetion in a shallow cove to see who could catch the most "perch" on them in 5 minutes.

they were catching bluegills and calling them perch :-? i thought that was pretty dumb of them.

but it looks like great fun for bluegills and panfish and stuff, but idk about bass fishing with one! :o love to see a 8lb bass get ahold of one of those! ;D

there are some pretty good youtube videos of this boat in action against some bass too. they caught a bass that looked about 15 inches long and it was tugging that boat underwater!

Yeah I saw that video too. They also have one that will drop stuff to attract carp and stuff. I don't really know anything about carp fishing but I saw that the other day. I guess kinda like chumming.

Down here in Texas, every sunfish is referred to as a "perch". That's what I've called them all of my life, not knowing any better until becoming an adult. I guess it's just stuck. Even farther south in Texas and in Louisiana they call crappie "white perch". Not dumb, just a dialect thing. :-/

Sorry, didn't want to jack the thread, I just thought I'd defend some of us "dummies" down here.  ;)  As far as the little boat goes, it looks about as useful as that "rocket" fishing pole.  Useless.

I read an article a while back - can't find it now - on a British web site talking about using an R/C boat for surf fishing.  It would take the line out past the breaks and you would release the line and then bring the  boat backin.

The problems I remember being discussed was that the boat would get swamped with incmoing waves - it would right itself but the line would typically get tangeld.  Also, depending on how far out and how much effort it took to keep the boat stable, you would only get two or three runs.

I thought it was interesting.

The thought of trolling though is just a bit much.  The fish gets wrapped in some struicture not only have you lost the fish, but you just lost your RC boat.

I think I will stick to the old fashioned way.

Here in Florida crappie are called "speckled perch," bluegill are "brim," and pickerel are called "jack fish" or "jacks."

In Cajun country, crappie are called Sacalait.

I just remembered that some of the older black folks in Kentucky called them Newlights.  From what I can tell, this usage is limited to Kentucky.
