I had something similar happen one morning before work.  

I was just waking up and switched the morning news on.  A bit into the broadcast the reporter came on and said that Iraq had nuclear missles aimed at several major US cities.  The reporter acted as though it was very serious and like Iraq may fire them.  

Usually the news will play 15 or so stories and then they repeat them, only the second time around the missle story wasn't mentioned.  It was as though someone called the station and warned them not to repeat that story.  

It was really odd.  I never did hear anything else about it.
