crank and floaters?

Featured Replies

I fish a crankbait and slam it into anything I can guide it up to and if I am fishing 10-12 ft of water I like a bait that will run a little deeper than the depth I am fishing. That way I can dig it into the bottom. Stop and go, anything to make it change directions and action. I never just chunk and crank.

thank you, but is it better to let it rise to the top where you can see it after u stop reeling or reel it for a certain ammount of time and have a clock in your head of when to reel again?

i'm fishing mainly 5ft of water. not sure if thats crankbait type water but i thought i'd give it a shot.

Nope. I pause it for just a second. Don't want a fish to get a good look at it.

Motify your retrive until the fish tell you what kind of pause and type of retrieve they want. Be aware that it can change quickly so keep at it.

ah i see, well is anyone using the poppers? any luck with those? or just stick to senkos and cranks?

I use poppers when I am tired of catching fish on other stuff, or when I need a little excitement.  ;)

fisrt off i love using crankbaits, biggest fish i get are of nice big crankbaits ;).  but poppers, well i am not that patient, actually i havent even tried formore than 5 minutes, i got bored ;) .  i like to run a crank bait over offshore structure and along the bank.

Hope I'm not reading you wrong but once you feel confident with one type of bait, try somthing new! There is a time and place for different rigs and baits ;)and the Bait Monkey will love you ;)...

                         As Ever,

                          skillet

ill fish skitter pops sunrise sunset once in a while but mainly breaks in a rainstorm or after a storm is normally when they produce good for me.. ill give em a go if theres greenary in the water too  ;) not to big on cranks or spinners, why stop fishing plastics when they dont stop catching fish hehehe... goodluck buddy

There will be times poppers and cranks outfish plastics, so don't give up on them. Each lure has its place and purpose!

The reason for so many types of lures on the market is that they all catch fish at one time or another for one peraon or another. While I fish soft plastics more than anything else but they all have their time and place. If you are on a good surface bite there is nothing more exciting nor more productive than some type of surface bait. This can be a minnow bait twitched on the surface or a popper.

Don't limit your options too much.

yeah, thanks all you guys for the posts. You've been extremly helpfull. I've been out of the fishing game for a little bit and now im wanting to get back to it. I used to be a HUGE spinnerbait kind of guy, fishing on private farms, catching 5-6 pounders EVERY CAST!!! but that was the past so i guess i'll have to be more patient  ;D

Thanks a ton guys.
