This makes me wish I still had a landline...

Featured Replies

I can't believe that anyone would still buy them.  I used to have fun taking ours apart and putting it back together.

As a kid, my dad showed me how to make calls without dialing a phone as well as how to tap the phone. . . a skill I used to put into practice to blackmail my older brother.  I wired it into the auxillary input to my stereo and would record his calls.

I was a sneaky little devil.

I still have one of those phones.  Anything has to be better than the crap they build today. Just can't say enough about those little cell phones either, can't here on them, can't hold on to them and I end up pushing two numbers at the same time. ::) My wife said I needed one of those ear things and I ain't walking around looking like a fool. And whats up with this tex messaging wouldn't it be easier to just call them and say HELLO. :D Them people from outer space are walking among us, you better watch out.

My grandparents used a rotary phone until 1995.  In fact, they rented their phone from the phone co-op until they died.

Hell, the ringer on my phone is an old ringy ringy from a rotary phone.

Oh he's got no problem at all with a fanny pack.  ;D

I text some, its convienent because you can talk to multiple people, take your time, think about what your saying, watch tv at the same time, and many other things haha. Also a big thing is because its quite. I personally hate talking to someone with others around me. Dunno why. Also its nice for school because you can talk to your friends while your suppost to be learning  ;)

11,000 a month? A friend of mine had, around 55,000 texts the first month he got it. His dad and i did the math, and he was doing like 3-4 texts a minute. It was ridiculus.

Doesn't it cost for each text you do? Who the heck pays the bill? ::)

They have unlimited plans now for around 15 bucks a month for text messages.  My life revolves around texting.  I'm generally too busy to spend the time for a phone call.  Plus some tasks only require one quick message that would be a waste of a phone call.  And finally, if you know that the recipient of your message is a busy person, the text message allows them the ability to respond when they are ready, without having to feel guilty about not answering the phone when it rings.

For instance, if I need to tell my girlfriend who is in class to get some milk on the way home, a text message is much easier.  If I call her and leave a message, it'll distract her from class wondering if the call was an emergency or not.  With a text, she can just read it and go back about her business.  That is, until it's time to get the milk...  ;)

My aunt was the same way.  She died in around 1997.  She had leased her rotary from Ma Bell for close to 30 years.  Paid around $5 a month IIRC.

$5 X 12 months = $60 a year

$60 X 30 years = $1,800!!   :o

Cool!  I had forgotten all about the dial "2" "2" and hang up trick.  used to pull that all the time.
