Lets talk Spoons

Featured Replies

I am out of the loop when it comes to spoons. My favorite big trout bait is a holographic spoon but I haven't fished them for bass in many years.

A very knowledgable fishing buddy of mine has been catching a lot of fish on spoons lately. My question is what are some good ones? I have plenty of Johnson's that I used to use but now there are tons of different kinds.

BTW. My buddy is not vertical jigging he is casting into creek channels and bringing it up to the flat that his boat is on. Mostly on points in 30' of water reeling into 12'.

So what are some good spoons to try?

I used to use casting spoons for redfish back a few years ago.  I haven't been after reds since I've been in the Army though.  I think my favorite casting spoon was made by luhr johnson, but I could be mistaken.  I really don't remember much...but I know that you need a good casting spoon.  A bunch of companies make the weedless kind.  I recommend tipping the hook with a finesse worm for a little extra action.  Fish it just like a fluke.  Thats not much advice, but it's all that I really remember.  It's been like 6 years...

If I were you , I would be throwing what your buddy is throwing.

Jason Quinn catches a ton of fish on Lake Wylie doing the exact same thing with a 1oz or 1.5oz Hopkins Slick Spoon fishing channels like that.  He has been on a couple of "The Bass Pros" shows doing that as well.
