best baby bass/bluegill swimbait?

Featured Replies

im in central florida, and fishing a dishpan clear lake.  typically, i hate swimbaits, but i caught 2 9lbers 2 8's and a six on saturday. and one of the big ones i caught on the matt lures baby bass swimbait then i got hung on a 20ft deep tree.  is there a better alternative for a baby bass swimbait?

better = more economical and equivilant performance.

Not really. That's the drawback to fishing those things. You could cut the hook off and rig a stinger with lighter line then your main line. Then when you get hung you just break off the stinger.

Matt's is the best soft Bluegill swimbait. My only other Bluegill swimbait is Jackall's Giron(hardbait), but they still cost $20 and are sometimes difficult to find.

It's the high price of swimbaiting. But didn't saturday make it worth the money you paid for it?

I know your pain. I have been there before. In my opinion if a bait produces huge bass for you then price is no object. Now of corse this is within reason. If its a $100 bait and there getting destroyed or your loosing them then I would look to other altenatives. However I would gladdly pay $1000 for a bait that I KNEW I would catch 3 bass over 18lbs with and then loose the bait. Of corse there is no way of knowing that but my point is the $1000 is well worth 3 18+lb fish to me. Any lure that is under $15 that produces even one huge fish, to me is worth it. keep in mind I am not Rich by any means. I just keep it in perspective. I think of all the junk fishing stuff I hav bought and all the stuff I dont even use and the money I spent on those things and then I consider the price of something that does work for me and has produced a big fish. Now the expensive gear looks like a bargin.

If you want to prolong your swimbaits, get a lure retreiver and some Mend-it glue. You should get a lot more use out of your baits

You should also make sure that you never, never hang into a 50-60lb spotted catfish (flathead cat) when fishing a mattlures on 30lb braided line.  It didn't work out too well.  He took my baby bass :)  If I had gotten him in, would you put a pic of that on your site Matt?  lol ;D

thanks all!

okay matt,

i ordered 3 of your lmb swimbaits from the sight to get the price break.  i caught the other big ones on a crank and 10" worm.  it is nice to have something to drag by them that they dont ever see down here.

btw, sundays results: 1 8lber 3 6lbs+, 2 5lb class, and several 4lbers.

deep clear lake + low water + untouched brush piles + good moon phase + cool afternoon rains = oh my!
