TiVo Question

Featured Replies

I've been to several folks' houses who have TiVo (spelling it like it sounds), and I really love the technology.  However, I use a regular house anteanna and get "free TV".  I was wondering if they make some device I can hook up to my TV and record, pause, etc. "Live TV".  Does anybody know of one?

I was looking at getting one of these things. So i did a lot of research on them. From that I under stand they hook up a lot like a old VCR. The main cable from your converter box would go into the back of TiVO. Then you would run a small jumper from TiVO to the back of the tv. Hopes this helps.

this link might help also.

Thanks for the info and the link.  WOW!!!  $300 for the one that hooks up to my set-up.  That's about $250 more than I was hoping to spend, so I'll have to shop around on e-bay.  Thanks again. :)

no problem. I backed out on buying one becasue i would have to pay like 12 dollers a month for service. You can get like a 400 doller life time service when you buy one. I also read some were you need a high speed internet so tivo knows whats its recording. To me tivo seemed like a big rip off. I can get the same thing from my cable provider for like 10 dollers a month.

This is what I got for my mom for back in the day. 90% sure this worked before we had cable. On a side note it doesn't let you select a show like CSI and it records. You have to set a date and time... so you could just get VHS off craigslist and save some $$ and buy another rod.

Yes there is a service fee. Thats why I didn't buy one. I would have only been used like 20 times a year to record f1 races.

I'm a tivo nut. I've had several since like 2000. Tivo did have a special for on the website for $199 but there will be a montly fee. It also will let you record two channels at a time. Although I'd sugest getting ATSC tuner for you PC if price is the main concern. Windows provides guide data for free to set up recordings and it also lets you pause live TV extra, By the way in case you didn't know a ATSC tuner is the new over the air standard. You can buy some internal or external as well and then just use you PC HD to store the shows. I'm not sure what your set up but my PC is hooked up to my TV but even if you don't connected you can use a Xbox 360 to stream the shows to it if you have one. Send me PM if you have any questions on the subject,

My tivo on my Direct TV satellite box. Check out Direct TV. I can record up several channels at a time, and I can record series, where it records the same show everytime it appears on tv. It neat technology.
